There were a ton of great guards at the Prep Hoops Illinois Top 250 Camp! We had to break them into a pair of stories. Here is the first in Prep Hoops Illinois Top 250: Steve’s Guard Standouts Pt 1!

Class of 2022

[player_tooltip player_id="1295578" first="Anthony" last="Nava"] (Joliet Central) 5’5

Small guard with lots of pizzazz to his game. Very shifty handle gets in the lane often is a superb passer. Nova hit a few shots from three as well. Anthony blows past defenders using his speed

[player_tooltip player_id="1295602" first="Tyler" last="Ford"] (Legal Prep) 6’2

Ford is a big guard who has great ball skills and a knack for getting a bucket. Tyler beat guys off the dribble and finishes well through contact. If the defense sat back to prevent drives Ford made threes. Tyler is inside - outside threat that you have to cover.

[player_tooltip player_id="1295589" first="Sebastian" last="Loder"] (Northstar HS) MN 6’3

Loder is a out of stater who came and made a name at the camp. Sebastian has good feel for the game, played hard on both ends. He a sneaky athletic guard who dunked on a defender body to body. Loder has a nice shooting stroke that almost broke the nets a few times. He beats guys off the dribble with straight lined drives several times and scored off tough finishes.

Demetrius Tulloch (Julian) 5’11

Demetrius made and impact on defense at first glance locking up guys in the backcourt a few times and covering steals to layups. Tulloch is a medium paced guard who can make shots from all three levels and is a solid IQ lead guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="771517" first="Jaylen" last="Drane"] (Simeon) 6’2

JRock is a top unsigned prospect in the senior class who at times felt like he was toying with defenders on Sunday. Drane brings excitement to the court with slick iso moves, passes, and ability to finish in various ways. Jaylen thrives in these type of basketball environments when he has the ball in open court. Sets up himself and teammates in the process. D1 schools calling for PGs what you waiting on?

[player_tooltip player_id="1048730" first="Jaydin" last="Dunlap"] (Bollingbrook) 6’2

Dunlap is athletic scoring guard who can meet you at the rim or beat you from long range. He had several dunks in transition. Jaydin can also get in the lane for scores or be a passer when needed. Dunlap doesn’t shy away from contact in the lane and with an added mid range game he can be a for sure scholarship player at a small college.

Terrance Jones (Longwood) 6’1

Jones is a slick lefty guard who can make shots and get to the rim with one or two moves. Terrance can score from all three levels but is more dangerous on defense where he uses his arm length to disrupt the guards anywhere on the court. A few coaches definitely highlighted his name on Sunday.

Class of 2023

[player_tooltip player_id="1113517" first="Maurice" last="Thomas"] (DePaul Prep) 6’1

Maurice had his shot going for him most of the day on Sunday. A much stronger guard for his class he made several shots many that only touches the net and no rim. With his physicality Thomas is a strong on ball defender that converts steals into points often. Maurice will be have a much bigger role at DePaul this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1165298" first="Tracy" last="Harris"] (Metro East Lutheran) 5’8

Harris is another smaller point guard who can fill it up from deep. Tracy ran off 4 plays in the game I watched him where he made three pointers in transition and was nowhere close to the arc. Harris is a quick guard who didn’t show much playmaking ability but is marksman from behind the three point line.

[player_tooltip player_id="1215287" first="Jake" last="Fiegen"] (New Trier ) 6’3

Jake was probably the hardest working player in the gym. He seemed to always be around the ball making plays and keeping plays alive for his team. Fiegen is known for his shooting which he also did really well. But Jake showed that he’s willing to make winning plays even in a showcase setting. I believe he will be a vital piece to the Trevians success this upcoming season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048328" first="Jackson" last="Niego"] (Lyons Township) 6’0

As he keeps the tradition of having a Niego play well in the state of Illinois, Jackson is a fundamentally sound PG that doesn’t waste a possession. He has a high intelligence on the court that helps make his teammates better. Niego moves the ball well on offense and is a shot maker when he gets his feet set. In his last game of the day Jackson hit 9 threes in what was one of the better shooting performances of the day.

[player_tooltip player_id="1168383" first="Adam" last="Labuda"] (Lockport) 6’2

Labuda is a bigger guard who plays off the ball for the most part. Adam is a catch and shoot artist that does most of his work from mid-range and the three point line. He is a straight lined driver who makes sweeping shots at the rim. His biggest play I witnessed was chase down block that he swatted out of bounds. Small college recruit.
