The brand new 2024 rankings puts the top players from the class into an initial pecking order. Expect lots of movement over the next couple of years as these guys step into the spotlight and show what they can do.

The size classification with the largest number of ranked 2024s is a tie between 6A and 5A with eight. Not surprisingly, a big group of the ranked 2024s comes from Wichita. Players who contributed at big schools as ninth graders got strong consideration.

That list is just the beginning of the quality found in the 2024 class. Here are some of the 2024s we expect to make an impact on the 6A classification:

1 [player_tooltip player_id="1270090" first="TJ" last="Williams"], 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Wichita Heights HS:

Williams caught a lot of eyes this summer with Run GMC. He showed he’s an offensive talent with a highly advanced set of physical tools. He is really tough to stop on the jumper off the dribble. He creates space and elevates. Williams got a great start with 8.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists as the only ninth grader to earn honorable mention 6A.

2 [player_tooltip player_id="1270094" first="Andrell" last="Burton"], 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Campus HS (pictured):

Burton got a lot of good experience last seasons, and he was part of a winner. He learned under the tutelage of [player_tooltip player_id="824114" first="Stevie" last="Strong Jr"] and [player_tooltip player_id="730616" first="Sterling" last="Chapman"] on a state runner-up. He wasn’t needed to produce a ton, so he will probably add a lot to the 5.9 points and 2.9 rebounds this season. In fact, Burton might just be the go-to guy for the Colts soon. Battles between Williams and Burton should be fun to watch.

6 [player_tooltip player_id="1270099" first="Robert" last="Basks"], 6-foot shooting guard, Wichita West HS:

Who would expect a freshman to hit 41% from deep? The lefty Basks did it, growing into the role of primary shooter for West. He’s a fine ball handler who can get to his own shot as well as knock down the catch-and-release variety. He continued to demonstrate his offensive talents with Kansas Players, having some big scoring games over the summer.

12 [player_tooltip player_id="1270289" first="Asa" last="Tarver"], 6-foot-3 small forward, Wichita South HS:

Tarver got off to a great start when he earned action as a ninth grader for South. He shot it well from deep, hitting a 38% clip. He’s got length and agility to defend a lot of different positions, and he added 1.4 rebounds a game to his 4.9 points in part-time action.

13 [player_tooltip player_id="1270290" first="Tasean" last="Williams"], 5-foot-7 point guard, Wichita Northwest HS:

Williams is one of the best ball handlers among 2024s. His handle allows him to get where he wants and to direct traffic confidently. He has shown an advanced understanding for running an offense. He can shoot it too, and averaged 5.7 points as a rookie. Watch for Williams to develop into a top point man.

17 [player_tooltip player_id="1270297" first="Jaxon" last="Klein"], 6-foot-5 small forward, Blue Valley Northwest HS:

Unlike the 6A 2024s ranked above him, Klein has yet to break in to varsity action. But little wonder, BVNW had one of the most loaded teams around. It remains to be seen if this is Klein’s year to crack the varsity, but when he was running with the KC Spurs, man was he impressive. He plays all out, and has a lot of ability to match his intensity. He’s long and springy and can affect the game in a lot of ways.

18 [player_tooltip player_id="1270298" first="Josiah" last="Polynice"], 6-foot point guard, Olathe South HS:

Like Klein, Polynice has yet to get into varsity action, but he really impressed this summer. He combines physical size and quickness with an advanced understanding of how to create opportunities. He feeds teammates in transition, and knows how penetration breaks down a defense. He never looks hurried, even though he pushes the tempo.

22 [player_tooltip player_id="1270302" first="BJ" last="Canady"], 6-foot-5 power forward, Topeka HS:

Canady cut his teeth with the varsity as a ninth grader, and his athleticism carried him to a good first campaign. He is still learning how dominant he can be in the post, and he worked on his overall game with Run GMC this summer. Topeka High will need someone to step up big time this year, so watch for Canady to take a sizeable step forward.
