After covering Lake Superior St back in June. Then Ferris St last week. We’ll continue the GLIAC (for one more year) elite camp tour with a visit to Northwood. Here are five players from the class of 2022 that stood out. Class of 2023 soon to follow.

Caleb Reese 5-11 Warren De La Salle Super quick point guard who used his speed to be seemingly everywhere on the court. Both defensively and offensively. Reese set the tone for every drill or game he was in. Good balance to his game. In that he is really able turn up the intensity without turnovers or sloppy play. Good penetrator who is able to finish at the rim despite top shelf size. Picked up an offer from Lake Superior St after his performance at their elite camp at the end of June. If he keeps playing like he did at Northwood. I wouldn’t be surprised if more came his way. Good academics will aid this cause as well.

[player_tooltip player_id="1211321" first="Devin" last="Lilly"] 6-2 Chippewa Valley (pictured at top of article) Bouncy two guard had a solid day. Lilly stood out in the three on three portion of the camp. Used quickness and a good first step to get to the hole at will. Also moved very well without the ball. Has a consistent outside shot. At 6-2, developing true point guard skills will be the next step towards finding a spot at the next level. Coming off a good summer with M&M Boyz on the Prep Hoops Circuit. A big senior season could help boost his recruiting profile.

[player_tooltip player_id="863989" first="Xander" last="Middleton"] 6-5 Monroe I have liked this player for a few years since first seeing him at the 250 Expo as a sophomore. In the far southern reaches of the state and playing with an Ohio based AAU squad. I haven’t been able to catch him as often as I would like. Has grown into his frame well and has excellent size for a wing. Really impressed me in the 1-on-1 King of the Hill portion of the camp. Let’s just say I got to see a lot of him as he was not stopped very often. Showed a wide array of pivots and pump fakes that were difficult to stop. Also has a good academic profile. I think this could be one of the sleeper recruits in the 2022 class.

I

[player_tooltip player_id="863993" first="Ethan" last="Crabtree"] 6-5 Coldwater This tall wing prospect has had an absolutely huge summer and kept it up at Northwood. Showed no signs of an ankle injury that kept him out of the last few weeks of the AAU season. I kept wanting him to show a little a little more offensive assertiveness at Northwood. At first I thought it was due to the injury. Then I realized he was essentially playing the point. And playing it well. Excelled in transition leading multiple fast breaks. As a point has the size to see over almost any perimeter defender. Also is an excellent passer. Often with one hand off the dribble. This positional versatility could make Crabtree even more appealing to college coaches. Also used his length to have a good day defensively. Highlighted by some impressive blocked shots above the rim.

[player_tooltip player_id="864003" first="Bryce" last="Esman"] 6-7 Oxford Old school post had a good day. Had perhaps the sturdiest frame in the camp and was not shy about throwing it around. Very mobile and displays excellent lateral quickness on the defensive end. Has a soft touch around the basket. Knows who he is and doesn’t venture out much on the perimeter. Perhaps his best skill is not measurable. He works very hard. I saw him have an excellent Saturday at the Mother’s Day Classic with the Michigan Warriors early in the spring. Didn’t let up all summer. A prototypical small college big man.
