Took in a lot of good basketball this weekend at the 2021 MAYB Nationals. Teams from around 15 different states participated. Here are some standout performances from Fridays games.

Tayveon Williams | 2023 | Agilign Glover

Williams was a lockdown defender on the perimeter. Very fast lateral movements, he was forcing ball pickup, deflecting passes, beating defenders to spots, and getting steals. He was able to turn defense into offense. He ran the floor well in transition, getting passes from teammates who had grabbed the ball from his deflection and he finished through contact. Tayveon was a very gritty player and a menace on the defensive end.

This kid is a very creative guard. He had a lot of different dribble combos to get by his man. He loves the mid range jumper and was able to knock it down a lot. He was always able to find a way to the rim and obviously was able to hit the mid range or finish at the rim. Stayed very calm under pressure and has great speed with the ball.

Jasiah Shields | 2023 | OZ Elite 2023 Brown

This kid wants to score at all times. He’s got such a great mentality when it comes to the game. He defended well and then ran the floor to get some fastbreak layups. He was constantly beating defenders down the floor. The big thing that stood out about this kids game is how much he elevated on his jumper. Defenders didn’t have a chance to block his shot and that gave him a big advantage out of the offensive set.

[player_tooltip player_id="1273045" first="Blake" last="Kilian"] | 2024 | KC Spurs

Kilian was a very dominant forward in his Friday showing. Great footwork and speed for a big he was able to finish around the rim at a high rate. He’s a quicker speed with some athleticism as well. Had some real nice finishes around the rim and in the paint. He got some perimeter touches but immediately got by his man with a quick first step and great speed on the attack.

[player_tooltip player_id="1018750" first="Rendell" last="Gines"] | 2023 | EYCE Elite Black

Gines was a pesky on ball defender. He was all over his man making it hard for his man to do anything. He’s a great one move and go guard with a lot of acceleration to go with that. He displayed some great vision in the paint, making the tougher passes look easy. Great transition vision too, dotting up his teammates up court. Very quick, unselfish point guard that plays lockdown defense.
