After strong showings on their respective AAU teams, these are five prospects in the backcourt that should be expected to contribute in a big way at the varsity level this winter.
Jordan Lomax Jordan Lomax 6'3" | SG Brownsburg | 2024 State IN (Avon H.S. 2024)
This 6’2″ guard can flat out score the basketball. Playing INB Platinum over the summer, Lomax was consistently one of the leading scorers throughout the AAU scene. He is an aggressive player with a solid shooting stroke and the ability to finish around the rim with impressive athleticism. There are a handful of sneaky-good guards at Avon and Lomax will definitely be one of them to make some noise this winter.
Brauntae Johnson Brauntae Johnson 6'2" | PG Fort Wayne North Side | 2024 IN (Fort Wayne North H.S. 2024)
“Tae Tae” is a big-time two-sport athlete that already holds a Division I offer in both football and basketball. Purdue pulled the trigger for the 4-star wide receiver while Purdue Fort Wayne is already in the mix on the basketball side of things. At 6’3″ and 180 pounds, Johnson has all of the physical tools and athleticism coaches of either sport want at the next level. After averaging 17.3 points per game as a freshman, look for Johnson to do even more this season at Fort Wayne North.
Ajani Washington Ajani Washington 6'2" | SG New Haven | 2024 State IN (Concordia Lutheran H.S. 2024)
Washington had a great summer handling the ball for Indy Heat 15u. Watching him on the EYBL circuit in July, the 6’2″ lead guard handled himself very well against some of the best players in the country. He is an explosive playmaker that can create his own shot with ease while also showcasing the necessary vision and passing ability to create scoring opportunities for others. Washington averaged 14.3 points and 3.7 assists per game as a freshman. He will battle his AAU teammate Tae Tae Johnson to be one of the best guards in the Fort Wayne area.
Jack Benter Jack Benter 6'4" | SG Brownstown Central | 2024 State #121 Nation IN (Brownstown Central H.S. 2024)
The 6’3″ wing had a huge freshman season at Brownstown scoring over 18 points per game and then played well on the UAA Rise Circuit over the summer for Grand Park Premier. Benter is one of the most skilled players in the state that will see his recruitment blow up if and when he grows a few more inches. He already has the physicality needed to battle through contact and all the ball skill to score it from the perimeter. This is a guy who could be one of the state’s leading scorers as early as this winter.
Kobi Bowles Kobi Bowles 6'2" | PG Lawrence North | 2024 State IN (Lawrence North H.S. 2024)
Lawrence North will need some help in the backcourt next to C.J. Gunn and this 5’11″ point guard is ready to provide it. Bowles played up a year with Indiana Ice on the 3SSB circuit and more than held his own. He is a super shifty lead guard with a tight handle that can get to the basket at will. The little lefty is a creative finisher inside that uses his body well inside and can absorb some contact while still finishing. Bowles will play a major role alongside Gunn this winter for LN.
