There were only 36 invited teams instead of the first Section-7 with 190 teams.
There were also four teams who made the Summer-64 Final-4 who ended up at Brophy Prep to play in front of the college coaches.
I viewed around 10 local teams this weekend and here were some 2023 standouts:
Tru Washington Tru Washington 6'3" | CG AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State #61 Nation AZ Mountain Pointe
-A strong and athletic guard who was phenomenal 8:00 am on Saturday. He can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and he hit three 3’s off the catch. He loves to attack the basket and plays with an elite motor to defend and get on the glass. He grabs out of area rebounds and has that next level gear to finish in traffic. He competes at a high level with a dog mentality and played through an injury the last two weekends.
Jason Fontenet Jr Jason Fontenet Jr 6'6" | CG Bella Vista Prep | 2023 State #255 Nation AZ St. Mary’s
-A better showing this weekend for the stud rising junior. He was hitting from deep off the bounce and has his usual pull-up from mid-range. He rebounded out of area and loves taking it into the lane and will take a bump better then most in his class and score through it. He made a few impressive lob passes and played an intelligent game.
Mark Brown Jr Mark Brown Jr 6'2" | PG Bella Vista Prep | 2023 State AZ Mountain Pointe
-One of the steadier PG’s in the class I viewed over the last two weekends. He can drive and kick to shooters and he is using a spin move to get the defenders off of him and finishes off tough layups or throws a dime. He is throwing more up the court passes and he can pull-up from mid-range. His on-ball defense is tough and played fast per usual.
Aiden Price Aiden Price 6'1" | SG Mountain Pointe | 2023 State AZ Mountain Pointe (Pictured)
-A nice compliment for Tru, Mark and Pate is Price. He can hit the catch-3 and is quick to drive by and finish. The lefty can pull-up off the dribble from mid-range and he gives them more guard depth and an another consistent shooter.
Marsai Mason Marsai Mason 6'6" | SF Phhoenix Prep | 2024 State AZ Mountain Pointe
-The true glue guy for the Pride is definitely Mason. He is long and lean but rebounds the ball, defends the 3-5 for them and runs the floor. He finished inside the lane and will finish in traffic. He is another that is a classic 50/50 high motored winner. His 3pt shooting is slowly coming around.
Davion Butler Davion Butler 5'10" | PG AZ Compass Prep | 2023 State AZ McClintock
-A bulldog type of player has that winning attitude. He is quick, skilled and tough. He has real range on his 3pt shot and gets it off quickly. He can pull-up from mid-range with a soft shot and is not afraid to take it to the hoop despite being undersized. He is quick on the ball defensively and brings that fire every game.
2023 Davion Butler is about to have a big junior season at McClintock ‼️🔥 @Davion07346544 @CoachD_MC @Section7Az pic.twitter.com/TSSB66Vlpo
