Prep Hoops 2k21: Ohio Quick Hitters

Just a quick overarching note about the Midwest Basketball Club. I don’t intend for this article to be an infomercial. But when you have five teams go undefeated over three age groups. It is inevitable. So instead of a traditional all tournament team I’m going to just highlight a large list of prospects that stood out. I will notate if they do not play for Midwest Basketball Club. As the majority of them did on their many various squads. [player_tooltip player_id="867934" first="Gabe" last="Cupps"] 6-2 2023 Centerville Believe the hype, believe the offers. A truly complete point guard prospect. So fundamentally sound but more athletic than you initially think. You will be hearing this name for a long time. A lot of Aaron Craft in his game. [player_tooltip player_id="921745" first="Rich" last="Rolf"] 6-6 2022 Centerville Like his teammate Cupps just follow the offers. Picked up four in one day after the 2k21 event. Skills don’t jump off the page initially like some of his teammates. But not many holes in his game either. [player_tooltip player_id="921764" first="Ben" last="Southerland"] 6-7 2022 Sycamore An extremely athletic post prospect who also has the ability to stretch the floor. Had several explosive finishes in transition that had the big crowds buzzing. Really seemed to like the corner three. [player_tooltip player_id="1195129" first="Louie" last="Semona"] 6-8 2022 St Xavier (pictured at top of article) A complete scoring package. Could develop into a bully ball three. Or an ideal stretch four. All depends on what he wants. Could hit the weights for the four. Or the take to the track to be a three. Nice decision to have. Maybe do both and become the true sleeper of this class. Showed a competitive streak I hadn’t really seen in a close loss to the Illinois Bears. Wanted the ball late and nearly won the game. One of my favorites from the grassroots season. [player_tooltip player_id="967147" first="Isaiah" last="Ramey"] 6-6 2022 Cedarville/Dream City Christian (AZ) Led squad to undefeated record. Scored 21 points against good RISE (IL) team. 17 against KC Spurs (MO). Has good size for position already. Heading to Dream City Christian (AZ) for his senior season. Recruitment could take off their as it has for others attending this school. [player_tooltip player_id="918987" first="Maro" last="Egodotaye"] 6-10 2021 Carroll/Link Year Prep (MO) Like teammate Ramey appears to be headed out of state next year. However Egodotaye’s year will be as a post grad. Link Year Prep had a lot of strong players in the 2k21 field such as Omarion Henry (MPJ Elite) A ton of physical upside and length. Has only been playing basketball a few years. The template for a late blooming steal. Kellen Leake 6-3 2022 Southview Athletic wing prospect who played with Athlete Headquarters White. Aggressive scorer who is not afraid to mix it up down low. Looked a little bigger then when I first saw him in Columbus in the spring. Showed composure in a loss to EAT Athletics (MI). As the score became lopsided and the frustration with the whistles mounted continued to compete and play hard. Tyron Barnes 5-10 2023 Springfield Power point guard played well for a Emerge Elite squad that went 2-2 on the weekend. Standout contest was a close victory against a good Full Package (IL) team. Finished with a team high 19 points and wanted the ball late in the tight contest. [player_tooltip player_id="867933" first="Deshawne" last="Crim"] 6-2 2023 Fairfield Bouncy point guard prospect with good leadership skills. Tight handle with good court awareness. Already has the ability and maturity to play both backcourt positions. [player_tooltip player_id="1225049" first="Julian" last="Mitchell"] 6-4 2023 Lakota East Tall and rangy wing with good scoring instincts. Plays with a swagger and was not afraid of the moment at all. Showed this by rising up for the game winning basket over D1 Indiana. Bright future as the physical development should catch up to the skills.
