I made the trip to Birmingham, AL where there were a number of events I attended including the Adidas 3SSB Session One and the Prep Hoops Circuit “The Platform.”
With so many talented players in one area for coaches to see, it will be tons of content coming out with standouts from both events.
Here’s a look at part two of my standouts from The Platform, featuring prospects from Indiana, Illinois and California.
Ryan Conwell Ryan Conwell 6'2" | SG Pike | 2022 State #155 Nation IN | 6’3” CG | EG10 17U ’22
Conwell was one of a number of midwest guards I got to see for the first time that impressed me, and he did so playing against a very good GA Stars group. Conwell is extremely long at 6’3” and uses that length to get deflections and cause havoc on the defensive end, he’s strong and able to get downhill to finish at the rim and he has a great feel for the game off the bounce as well. He’s a tough nosed and skilled guard who should see a lot of recruitment from multiple conferences in the midwest.
Malik Moore Malik Moore 6'3" | SG Heritage Christian | 2022 State CA-S | 6’4” CG | BTI 17U ’22
BTI is an independent program I love to watch but don’t get much of a chance to since I’m an east coast guy and they’re based out of California, but every time I watch them they have a lot of talent. Moore is one who caught my eye very quickly, as he’s a smooth combo guard with good size and a mix of shot making ability and playmaking ability off the bounce. He has a great feel for the game and seems to always make the right play, he can knock down shots from deep consistently and he can get in the midrange and make contested shots as well.
Seth Brown | 6’4” WG | BTI 17U ’22
Brown was another impressive prospect for the BTI group, as he showed he can be a floor stretcher and knock down shooter with good size. Brown got hot early when I watched them play, and he showed good range and a quick release from deep and was someone who worked nonstop off the basketball to get open. He can make shots on the move and gets hot quickly, he has good size for his position and he played with a good motor on both ends as well.
Kam Craft Kam Craft 6'5" | SF TSF | 2022 State #54 Nation GA | 6’6” WG | Meanstreets 17U ’22
Craft, who is committed to Xavier, continues his huge summer heading into Peach Jam as he showed he’s a high level shot maker who can fill it up in bunches. He has great size at his position and for what he does on the floor, and he’s extremely consistent on the floor and knows how to get open and make shots both on the move and on kick outs. Not only is a knock down shooter but he also helps on the glass, has a good feel for the game and plays with a chip on his shoulder as well.
Sam Lewis Sam Lewis 6'5" | SF Oak Park River Forest | 2023 State IL | 6’6” WG | Meanstreets 16U ’23
Lewis and Johnson (below) both took over the game I watched for Meanstreets with their shooting and they’ll be recruited very highly due to their size and shot making ability. Lewis is a smooth wing that is athletic and has good length, moves well off the ball and can read screens to make the right decision and he has deep range off the catch. He’s a guy who can let it fly in transition and it’s a good shot, and once he hits one he’s bound to ring multiple off in a row.
Dan Johnson | 6’6” WG | Meanstreets 16U ‘23
Johnson is another sharp shooting wing with good size and athleticism as well, and he also was hot in the game I watched as I saw him ring off four straight three-pointers at one point for Meanstreets. The 6’6” wing is an impact player on both ends of the floor, he showed he can play both on and off the basketball and he rebounds well for his position too. He’s a tough nosed guy who brings it on both ends and has deep range and good consistency from deep, and he’ll be heavily touted over the next few years.
