The live period was in full effect and our in-state prospects put a good showing in front of a big chunk of college coaches from all over the map. Today, we take a look at some of 2022s that stood out for me.
Brendan Byce – 6’4 SG – Elkhart Central – Tipping Point 2022: Byce is a taller shooting guard that showed he could do a little bit of everything. Has some real long arms and is pretty strong for the most part. Solid baseline jumper and drives well from the top of key. Smart player over all and hardly made any mistakes if any. Battles for rebounds as well.
Tionne Spates – 6’6 PF – Ben Davis – Indiana Faith 2022: Spates is a tall power forward with a good amount of athleticism. Very high vertical and used that to his advantage to win the rebounding battles. Was more of a threat on the defensive end as he defended the post well and showed off some nice shot blocking ability. Needs to just see a little more energy from him but his fundamentals are pretty on point for the most part.
Razhaun Wells – 6’3 PF/C – Mt. Vernon – Indiana Faith 2022: Wells is a shorter post player that plays like a bully. Very solid fundamentally and was one of the better passing bigs I saw that day. When he had his back to basket he did a great job of being patient with what he was going to do as he would scan the floor and nothing was available he would utilize great footwork to make a play at the basket. Also could stretch the floor a little as well. Underrated performance from Wells here.
Jack Farnsley – 6’7 SF – Columbus Homeschool – Indiana Ice 2022 Silver: Farnsley is a long and lanky wing with a ton of height. Has a nice shot fake and was at his best using that on the baseline before he would drive it in. Like you would expect given his height, he rebounds very well. Versatile defender and proved to be a reliable shot blocker. Needs a little more weight added to his overall frame but has the skill to compete.
Jackson Bobo Jackson Bobo 6'8" | PF Lawrenceburg | 2022 State IN – 6’7 PF – Lawrenceburg – Indiana Elite South 2022: Bobo is a stretch 4 with a ton of skill. Played all over the floor here and was just finding ways to score at all 3 levels, especially around the 15ft mark on both the baseline and free-throw line. Solid handles for a big and can get a little crafty on a drive to the rim. On the defensive end, he might have been the best shot blocking big I saw as he had back-to-back plays were he blocked an outside jumper then on the next play blocked a 15fter. Heard his name come up a little bit as well from some coaches so he was for sure a standout here this past weekend.
Brock Kincaid Brock Kincaid 6'3" | SG Bloomington South | 2022 State IN – 6’4 SG/W – Greenwood – Indiana Elite South 2022: Kincaid is a taller SG/W that has some solid athleticism to him. Looked to be his best in transition where he would use his length and athleticism to get to the rim and score. Had a block on the defensive end and can actually defend the post pretty well. Kincaid is an active player that has a solid feel for the game.
Tyree Rochell – 6’2 SF – Bloomington North – Indiana Elite South 2022: Rochell is SF that plays with a ton of energy. Played on the ball a ton here and was penetrating hard at the rim. Was just a little wild on his passes but I do not think the lead guard spot is his natural position. Also is an aggressive defender and was able to get a few stop and steals when I watched. Solid showing from Rochell.
Christian Flowers Christian Flowers 6'2" | SG Covenant Christian | 2022 IN – 6’1 PG/SG – Ben Davis – Indiana Elite Swish 2022: Flowers is a combo guard that really showed off his scoring here. Scored at all 3 levels and was firing off shots with a ton of confidence. Was easily the quickness player on the floor used his speed to get in there and grab a few rebounds. Long term, I think he will be more on the ball where he can create and facilitate but seeing him off the ball a little bit here really shows the wide range of skills he has. Flowers looked impressive here.
Nick Mundy – 6’0 PG – Mitchell – Indiana Elite Swish 2022: Mundy is a taller, aggressive guard that showed he can really be an effective lead guard. Had two beautiful full-court passes that both lead to fast break scores. Noticed how great of job he does at chasing his missed shots as he had one missed three and was able to grab it and score the left-handed layup before the defense even knew what had happened. Mundy’s court vision was spectacular this game and is starting to show that he can be a reliable lead guard for the long term. Mundy just keeps improving it seems.
Amonn Burns – 5’10 PG – Lawrence Central – Indiana Elite Swish 2022: Burns is a smaller lead guard that really impressed here. Was very good on the defensive end here and had a couple of steals and scores. Pretty creative player when he has the ball in his hands and is pretty balanced with his scoring. Also has a smooth fader in his arsenal. Overall, Burns was a player that I did not know much about heading into this but he showed he is tough and plays his tail off.
