Point Guards in the Top 20 Are the First Grouping
#2 Marcus Zeigler Jr Marcus Zeigler Jr 6'2" | PG Wichita Heights | 2023 State KS , 6’1, Wichita Heights, Perry Ellis: Had a really solid sophomore campaign in the back court averaging around 9 points and 2 assists per game. Has great strength and plays well in traffic with his finishing ability and setting up teammates for success. Aggressive with the ball in his hands, keeps pressure on defenses with a really solid change of pace to partner with his strength off the bounce.
#8 Kobe Smith Kobe Smith 6'1" | CG Andover Central | 2023 State KS , 6’1, Wichita Southeast, Oz Elite (Pictured): Another point guard who played well during their sophomore season averaging 9.3 points, 1.9 assists, and 3 rebounds per game. Has more of a scoring mindset from what I saw this spring and his range from deep is getting more and more consistent. Solid shooter off the bounce with a quick burst off the ground when he gets to his spot. Really good player in transition as well.
#9 Jordan McGowan Jordan McGowan 5'10" | PG Shawnee Mission West | 2023 KS , 5’10, Shawnee Mission West, Team KC: Really solid athlete in the back court who really can push the tempo and control pace of the game. Good shooter from the perimeter and he pairs it with a solid counter off the dribble playing downhill or attacking closeouts. Sees the floor well and makes great kick outs or dump downs to bigs.
#10 Jason Rodriguez Jason Rodriguez 5'10" | PG Bishop Miege | 2023 State KS , 5’10, Harmon, Midwest Bounce: Lanky point guard with great handle and court vision. Has stepped up and played well for the first year travel program Midwest Bounce and consistently been their best player in each tournament. Can live inside the painted area and be a tremendous playmaker as a passer or scorer. Can handle a high usage rate playing with a high assist to turnover ratio.
#15 Garrett Robertson Garrett Robertson 5'10" | PG Hutchinson | 2023 State KS , 5’10, Hutchinson, Oz Elite: One of the leaders in the back court for Hutchinson last year in their playoff run as a sophomore. A tremendous shooter of the basketball especially off the dribble. Has a really solid handle and high IQ of where to be on the floor and where to get the basketball. Moves well off the ball as well which just adds more versatility to his game.
#16 Malik O’Atis Malik O’Atis 5'11" | PG Shawnee Mission Northwest | 2023 State KS , 5’11, Shawnee Mission Northwest, Team KC: A guard here with the talent to jump a few guys in front of him this upcoming season as he will get an expanded role at SMNW. A savvy defender who can get in passing lanes, get under ball handlers, and cause turnovers. Showed his ability with the ball in transition with his really solid athleticism and control going to score the ball. He is a point guard who can handle pressure and apply pressure.
#18 Patrick McCallop Jr. , 5’10, Bishop Miege, KC Spurs: Another point guard on this list who has a chance to really blowup this upcoming high school season with his ability to get a bunch of run in the spring and summer and a much deserved increase in point guard duties at Miege this year. A quick guard whos change of pace is improving with ability to get to the rim at will. Have always like his ability to make life hard on opposing defenders trying to get downhill as much as possible.
#20 Kellan Simoneau Kellan Simoneau 6'2" | PG Rose Hill | 2023 State KS , 6’1, Rose Hill, Buddy Buckets-KS: Him and Adriel Smith Adriel Smith 5'10" | CG Rose Hill | 2022 State KS whos in our class of 2022 rankings make a great tandem in the back court. Simoneau has really shown his stuff this spring as well. Great with or without the ball which extends his ability to be on the floor. Has a point guard’s mindset as he is unselfish, has a high IQ especially with floor spacing, and can get guys into offense and make plays. He can also really shoot the ball both off the catch and dribble.
