This weekend I checked out the Colorado High School Team Camp held at Metro State University in Denver, Colorado. While there were many great performers at this event I wanted to highlight the top performers. Here's what I saw from these standouts.: [player_tooltip player_id="1284438" first="Matt" last="Yost"] | 6-5 G/F | Senior | Regis Jesuit High School Yost is a very well rounded player. He plays both ends of the floor and his value to his team is unquestionable. He is his teams leading scorer in almost every game. He can score inside and out and shoots the three ball well. When he is not busy scoring a much needed bucket for his team he also runs the point. At 6-5 that creates constant mismatches and he is adept at taking advantage of those mismatches. His game doesn't stop there though. He is a tough defender and helps hold down the rebounding duties for his team as well. I was impressed with his versatility and his ability to make things happen for his team. Yost is one to watch this coming High School season and beyond(College Level Talent) as his potential is very high! [player_tooltip player_id='1318382' first='Jackson' last='Hansen'] | 5-7 PG | Sophomore | Ralston Valley High School First and foremost Hansen is a complete point guard! He is tenacious on the defensive end of the floor, but his game doesn't stop there. He runs his team with precision. He is a well rounded scorer who can finish at the bucket in traffic or drain a three from downtown. His team also seems to respond to his presence on the floor. When he is in the game it is evident that his teams operates at an optimal level and that has to do with his ability to run the show. He is what every coach wants, a general on the floor. He is a great all round point guard. Also, being an underclassman I expect Hansen to shine over the next few years and lead his team to deep state playoff runs. Excited to see his future unfold. [player_tooltip player_id="1139823" first="Ty" last="Adam"] | 6-8 F | Junior | Severance High School Adam is the modern games version of a stretch forward. He has the ability to pull a larger defender out into space and knock down an outside shot or take them to the basket. He is also a tough rebounder and leads his team on the boards and is a commanding presence on the floor. He has good footwork, a mixture of ability to drive and score from midrange and from the three point line as well which makes him a match up nightmare. Adam is also a player to keep an eye on as he has a high ceiling and a body type that can add some muscle and play at the next level. Dalton Despain | 5-6 SG | Junior | Mustangs Select Basketball | Legacy High School Despain is what I call an all purpose player. He always seems to be in the right place at the right time and does everything you want a player to do that most players don't want to do. He can drive and score, shoot the three, score from midrange, he rebounds, and has a hard nosed toughness mentality that is unmatched. He is also not afraid to finish in traffic against much taller players and is crafty at doing so. He is what I call a glue guy that every coach loves to have as he keeps the team together. Despain is heading into his Junior year and I'm excited to keep an eye out for this up and comer. Drew Jackson | 5-8 PG/SG | Sophomore | Cheyenne East High School Jackson is an explosive all purpose player. He runs both the point guard position and shooting guard position for his team. When he puts the ball on the floor to get to the basket he is very explosive and also has very good leaping ability to finish over taller defenders. His game is not one dimensional though he is also able to hit the three ball consistently and play lock down defense. Besides Jackson explosiveness, what impressed me the most is that for a younger player(Rising Sophomore) is that he really plays great team basketball. He seems to always make the right read and get the ball to his teammates when that is the best choice. I love Jackson's all round game and expect he will be playing on the next level in the near future. Keep an eye out for Drew Jackson! Isaac Ward | 5-8 PG| Junior | Mustangs Select Basketball | Legacy High School Ward is a long, lanky scoring point guard. He creates mismatch problems for opposing teams as he can shoot the three ball, drive and finish, and back down smaller guards into the post. He has a good command of his team and runs the show for them. He has great body control and is very flexible which helps him with finishing at the bucket. He also has good court vision and gets his team into positions to be effective. When he was inserted late into the first game on Saturday he almost lead his team back from a double digit deficit. I'm excited to see this rising Junior play next year! [player_tooltip player_id="618872" first="Micah" last="Leslie"] | 6-4 F | Senior | Mullen High School As another one of my top performers this weekend Leslie was very effective for his team. As seemed to be the story of the team camp, Leslie is also a stretch forward/guard. He has good footwork and an ability to get around his defender and finish at the bucket. At his size and ability to handle the ball he is constantly putting pressure on the defense. On the defensive end of the floor he keeps himself in front of his player and does not let them have much room to operate and blocked several shots. He also holds down the rebounding duties despite being one of his teams leading scorers. He is definitely a player to keep an eye out for as his senior year of High School is beginning. Adam Lewis | 6-4 F | Junior | Mustangs Select Basketball | Legacy High School Surprise, Surprise, Lewis is another stretch forward but his specialty is the three ball. Lewis is what I call a sharp shooter. Much like Reggie Miller was back in the day Lewis is the go to guy when his team needs a bucket and he is always ready to fire one from way downtown. In his teams first game of the day he had a quick 9 points which enabled his team to almost make a come back victory. In addition to the three ball Lewis also has a nice midrange game and the length and size to play at the next level. Excited to see how this youngsters High School career develops. [player_tooltip player_id='2397695' first='Alex' last='McCollum'] | 6-3 SG | Sophomore | Mustangs Select Basketball | Horizon High School My final top performer is shooting guard [player_tooltip player_id='2397695' first='Alex' last='McCollum']. McCollum has good size for a shooting guard, can shoot the three ball, knock down the mid range jumper, drive and finish, and post up smaller defenders. McCollum has good size and is often asked to play against taller forwards but always holds his own. McCollum has some good spring off the floor and was close to flushing the ball on several drives. Once he has the ability to flush the ball on drives, with traffic, against smaller defenders consistently his game will go to another level. He is a player to keep an eye on in the upcoming High School season.
