Many prospects took a break from the grassroots season to compete in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches Showcase in Duncanville this past weekend. Over 150 schools attended the event, providing me with an opportunity to see both new and old faces play alongside their high school teammates in a tournament atmosphere.

With that in mind, here are some of the best 2023 and 2024 prospects from the TABC Showcase:

[player_tooltip player_id="892162" first="Ronald" last="Holland"] | 2023 | 6’8’’ Power Forward | Duncanville HS - This was the first time I’ve seen Holland in person and he certainly lived up to the hype. His rebounding and high motor were as good as advertised, but it was his fluid movement and ability to comfortably handle the ball as well as make some advanced passes that made me realize just how talented he is. The No. 1 ranked 2023 prospect in the state displayed a great feel for the game and versatility to spare.

[player_tooltip player_id="892163" first="Drew" last="Steffe"] | 2023 | 6’6’’ Combo Guard | Frisco Memorial HS - Steffe has been one of my favorite players to watch over the past few seasons. The 2023 guard is a dynamic offensive weapon who can shoot it with the best of them while still finding ways to be a playmaker and involve his teammates. He controlled the pace of the game and consistently made winning plays this weekend. Furthermore, Steffe seems to be growing into and embracing his role as a leader now that he is an upperclassman, something you love to see.

[player_tooltip player_id="1217802" first="Kayde" last="Dotson"] | 2024 | 6’2’’ Point Guard | Beaumont United HS - Dotson hit some big-time shots in Beaumont United’s come-from-behind win over Duncanville on Saturday, highlighted by a corner three that he knocked down despite being fouled, converting the 4-point play at the line. He finished the contest with 17 points. The 2024 prospect made some savvy plays on defense as well that helped his team secure the victory. He should be in store for a great sophomore season with a year of varsity ball under his belt.

[player_tooltip player_id="787319" first="Cameron" last="Barnes"] | 2023 | 6’10’’ Power Forward/Center | Duncanville HS - Barnes possesses terrific size and is more mobile than you would think. He was willing to stretch out and shoot the ball and had some success doing so from mid-range. The Duncanville big man also looked solid on the offensive glass, getting either second chance opportunities for his team or finishing the play himself with tip-ins around the basket.

[player_tooltip player_id="1056523" first="Jackson" last="Prince"] | 2023 | 6’1’’ Shooting Guard | Duncanville HS - Prince operated as a three-point specialist for Duncanville on Saturday and thrived in his role. The soon-to-be junior marksman was reliable from behind the arc, but it was his off-ball movement that impressed me the most. He rarely took plays off and was always moving with urgency to free himself up for open looks from deep. His readiness to fire when the ball hit his hands stood out too.

[player_tooltip player_id="787324" first="R.J." last="Chatman"] | 2023 | 5’10’’ Point Guard | Sachse HS - Chatman was one of the most productive guards at our Prep Hoops Circuit Mayhem in the Plex event earlier this summer. He continued that at the TABC Showcase. The Sachse floor general put up a 28-point 10-assist double-double in his final game of the weekend. He created for himself and others, getting to his spots and converting at a high clip. This guy is a fantastic shot maker. That said, Chatman is a complete offensive player who can really do it all at that end.
