The Riverside Brookfield Shootout this past weekend was a great opportunity to get evaluations on prospects from across the classes from around the Chicagoland area. Our post event coverage features 100+ scouting reports on prospects in the event. Here is Riverside Brookfield: 2022 Evaluations Pt 2!

[player_tooltip player_id="771516" first="AJ" last="Casey"] (Whitney Young)

Best prospect in the senior class played like it at Riverside Brookfield. The four man displayed his versality on both ends all weekend. Offensively he runs the floor so fluidly, is uber quick in the paint with moves, and was active on the offensive glass for put backs. Defends multiple positions and impacts the game with his length on that end.

[player_tooltip player_id="863585" first="Xavier" last="Amos"] (Whitney Young)

Arrow continues to point up for Amos who has proved over the six months consistently he is a legit mid-major prospect. One weekend in front of coaches and they are agreeing. Well built four with plus athleticism. He seals on the block, makes decisive moves, runs the floor tremendously well, and competes. Didn’t show a ton of the face up skill this weekend, but it is in there. Also a decent shot blocker.

[player_tooltip player_id="1048717" first="Marcus" last="Overstreet"] (Whitney Young)

Overstreet has a lot of projectability. We hadn’t seen him since the high school season and we definitely have him a bit too lower in the rankings. At 6’9” the Whitney Young five man has a long and lanky frame. High points rebounds in traffic and shows decent touch around the hoop in spurts. Continuing to become a more fluid athlete will help him. He is a D2+ prospect right now.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210405" first="Michael" last="Osei-Bonsu"] (Bolingbrook)

Small college gem here. The undersized four man is a wide bodied post that plays taller than his height by using his body to box out and rebound in traffic. High-motor kid that moves bodies inside. Great understanding of how to use his body to get buckets as he is very efficient in the post finishing against taller opponents.

Patrick Robinson (Oswego East)

Robinson had a monster game against Whitney Young getting key buckets when his team needed them. The physical wing was most effective attacking on the baseline for scores through contact often getting and-1s. Also played well in transition scoring and throwing a couple of dimes. Solid rebounder. Need to see this kind of production game in and game out as he has low-major ability.

[player_tooltip player_id="1106946" first="Will" last="Grudzinski"] (Barrington)

First look at Grudzinski with his high school team since last season. With Young & Reckless the 6’7” forward is utilized as a floor spacer spotting up on the wings and corners for threes. Did some of that in this game too nailing four from distance. Quick and consistent shot. Did display more to his game which will help his stock. Mixed in some crisp mid-range jumpers along with a few runners. D2 programs should be knocking his door down and low-majors need to be inquiring here.

[player_tooltip player_id="1106935" first="Nathan" last="Boldt"] (Barrington)

Boldt stands at 6’9” with tremendous length. Plays with strength around the basket and utilizes quick post moves including being able to finish with either hand. Really like him at the small college level.

[player_tooltip player_id="1106932" first="Daniel" last="Hong"] (Barrington)

Hong is another D3 prospect that has been productive in a variety of settings. The point guard is a plus shooter from three that can also stop and pop from mid-range with consistency. More of a scorer right now that can elevate even more with improved passing.

[player_tooltip player_id="863619" first="Ben" last="VanderWal"] (Timothy Christian)

Most under recruited top 10 player in recent memory? Yes and it is absolutely ridiculous he doesn’t have a multiple D1 offers. William & Mary got things going this week for the 6’7” forward. What was most interesting about VanderWal over the weekend was when we saw him it wasn’t his elite shooting that shined. He rebounded at a super high rate attacking them in traffic. Also consistently put it on the deck whether it is in transition or the half court. Scored at the cup through contact. Can defend multiple positions on the defensive end with his plus athleticism and length. Mid-majors need to get in ASAP!

[player_tooltip player_id="996081" first="Trey" last="Keizer"] (Timothy Christian)

Keizer is an excellent Robin to VanderWal’s Batman for TC. The combo guard is a crafty scorer in the lane that converts with his compact frame. Couple quick passes and is a capable spot up shooter that will find a nice home at the small college level.

[player_tooltip player_id="925224" first="Nick" last="Martinelli"] (Glenbrook South)

Martinelli was one of the top scorers at the event. #Shocker. The skilled combo forward can score from all three levels. Lengthy forward converts in the paint with up and unders, skilled post moves, crafty drives changing angles on a dime, and can bomb in threes. One of the most productive players in the state. Good enough athlete. Mid-majors will love him as a do it all player!

[player_tooltip player_id="925190" first="Cooper" last="Noard"] (Glenbrook South)

Noard is the point guard and floor general for Glenbrook South. Plus shooter from beyond the arc and that was made very apparent as he knocked in a handful of them in the game we saw. Crisp and clean release. Gets elevation on it and shot falls at a high clip. One of the better shooting point guards in the class. That is in addition to the high IQ and passing he brings to the table along with his leadership. Low-majors are wise to check him out.

[player_tooltip player_id="925202" first="John" last="Paul Hanley"] (Riverside Brookfield)

JPH is the heart and soul of RB. The thick bodied wing is a plus shooter from three that pulls the trigger quick from three. He was a consistent threat off the catch locating weak spots in the perimeter defense. Great value at the D3 or NAIA level.

Joe Gilhooley (Riverside Brookfield)

Gilhooley opened our eyes with a strong performance. Excellent glue guy that can hit an open shots when it presents itself and runs the floor in transition.

[player_tooltip player_id="863630" first="Ethan" last="Ivan"] (Batavia)

Ivan is a face up four man who had an outstanding performance at Riverside Brookfield. We have been big advocates that he needs to be a D2 priority recruit. Batavia went for 32 points in their Sunday morning game. The 6’6” post is a floor spacer knocking in threes spotting up consistently. What impressed us was his toughness and mobility around the hoop and how he ran the floor hard.

[player_tooltip player_id="1106934" first="Austin" last="Ambrose"] (Batavia)

Ambrose has legit size to play the five spot at the small college level. He is a 6’9” center that rebounds well in his area getting a lot of his points on offensive rebound put backs.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210416" first="Trent" last="Tousana"] (Batavia)

Tousana had a nice spring with M14 and followed it up with a quality performance at RB. The point guard has a quick burst off the bounce and great passing feel. He was at his best as a distributor. A small college would be wise to take a look at him.

[player_tooltip player_id="925184" first="Damari" last="Wheeler-Thomas"] (Larkin)

Wheeler-Thomas is one of the better point guards in the 2022 class in Illinois. He was fighting through injuries over the weekend, but still managed to show flashes of what we like about him. Shake off the bounce being shifty in the lane getting to the rim for layups. Knocked in mid-range jumpers and uses his defense to start his offense. Low-majors should be getting in here.

Fernando Perez (Larkin)

Perez is a prospect that is intriguing because of his positional size as a combo guard. Hit a deep three and competed on the defensive end.
