The Riverside Brookfield Shootout this past weekend was a great opportunity to get evaluations on prospects from across the classes from around the Chicagoland area. Our post event coverage features 100+ scouting reports on prospects in the event. Here is Riverside Brookfield: 2022 Evaluations Pt 1!

Orlando Thomas (Rolling Meadows)

Thomas told me last week he was going to make a statement and that is exactly what he did. The lefty combo guard has a long and rangy frame. Knocked down shots at a much higher clip than we had previously seen. Both pulling up and off the catch. Creative ball handler that can win off the shake and displayed decent passing. Like the athleticism and projectability at the D2 level.

Marcus Glover (Hillcrest)

Glover is a 6’7” power forward with a thick body. Gets after it on the glass and brings some intensity on the defensive end. JUCO or small college post.

[player_tooltip player_id="863613" first="AJ" last="Redd"] (St. Ignatius)

The slender two guard from St. Ignatius was fighting through an injury over the weekend. Slick ball handler that is at his best when he slithers through the defense for scores in the paint. The jump shot wasn’t much of a factor in the games we saw over the weekend. Potential to be Iggy’s best perimeter defender this season. D2 prospect that if he adds strength could be a nice pick up at that level.

[player_tooltip player_id="925217" first="Kolby" last="Gilles"] (St. Ignatius)

Gilles is a small college gem with his strong frame and improved perimeter shooting. Can stretch the floor knocking in spot up threes at a solid clip. Plays with physicality inside and can put it on the deck a little from the mid-post. Best rebounder on the team.

Luis Acevedo (Homewood Flossmoor)

This 6’3” combo guard played on the ball most of the time. He was an impactful scorer hitting multiple threes in the game we saw. Played with quite a bit of confidence. If he can improve as a passer it would help his stock. Right now projects as a high end small college prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="771544" first="Christian" last="Meeks"] (Homewood Flossmoor)

Meeks was one of the surprises of the weekend not for what he did on the floor, but rather his jersey. It was rumored he was on the move to Tinley Park. Meeks confirmed post game he is sticking with HF. They have a high-end D2 post prospect that plays with a non-stop motor. The undersized four mauls on the glass with his intensity and quickness in the paint. Such a productive player with his toughness. Can make a shot, but needs to speed it up quite a bit.

[player_tooltip player_id="863583" first="Robbie" last="Avila"] (Oak Forest)

Avila is a PHI favorite. The Oak Forest power forward just gets stuff done. He has a slo-mo type game where he looks like he is moving in slow motion, but he always gets what he wants. Matched up with a couple other D1 four men in the two games we saw. He was so good as a passer picking apart the defense over and over again out of the high-post and even playing point-forward at times. Crafty around the hoop as usual with seals, post moves, and crafty takes from the mid-post. Always finishes and is a machine getting and-1s. Impact mid-major prospect!

[player_tooltip player_id="1049075" first="Fred" last="Robinson"] (Oak Forest)

Robinson is a combo guard that brings athleticism in the backcourt. He can push it in the open floor and get to the rim. Hits an occasional three. Small college guard.

[player_tooltip player_id="863618" first="Dylan" last="Arnett"] (DePaul Prep)

Arnett played better at RB than we saw during his junior campaign. The top 30 prospect displayed toughness around the hoop rebounding well in this area and getting second chance points. Flashed some handles although that’s not really his game. He can connect from distance which he did on several occasions. Low-major big man in 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210419" first="Alex" last="Gutierrez"] (DePaul Prep)

Slick handling DePaul Prep guard that has a rangy frame and a decent feel for the game. Good role player that doesn’t make a ton of mistakes who will find a home at the D3 level.

Trevon Thomas (DePaul Prep)

Thomas was the surprise for DePaul Prep. This 6’1” point guard is a scrappy defender with decent length. He shot it incredibly well from beyond the arc knocking in four of them in the game we caught. Small college guard should be an impactful backcourt player for the Rams this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="996072" first="Jalen" last="Brown"] (De La Salle)

Speaking of CCL guards Brown is a big bodied point guard that runs the show for De La Salle. He was without his fellow guard so had to take on a larger role over the weekend. Is at his best when looking to dish, but can use his power and hit a three. D2 programs should be monitoring him.

[player_tooltip player_id="925199" first="JaMil" last="Wilson"] (De La Salle)

Wilson was in and out of the lineup this spring with injuries, so this was our first time seeing him in a minute. Liked what we saw out of the four man. He is a thin post that will need to add strength moving forward. Played with a higher motor than we had previously seen. Hook shot, transition dunk, and was quick off the floor as a shot blocker. D2s have him on your radar and might be a nice developmental post at the JUCO level.

[player_tooltip player_id="925208" first="Rashawn" last="Bost"] (Evanston)

Bost will be the top perimeter option for Evanston this upcoming season. He is a shot maker. The smaller guard also loves to mix in runners and stop and pop mid-range jumpers. More of a scorer at this stage. Good small college option.

[player_tooltip player_id="1169886" first="Noah" last="Shannon"] (New Trier)

Have a day [player_tooltip player_id="1169886" first="Noah" last="Shannon"]. The best time to have the performance of your life would be with 50+ college coaches on the baselines in a small gym. That is exactly what Shannon did Saturday going for 20+ points being the best player on the floor as the forward threw down several explosive jams on back cuts and then started bombing in three after three. Connected on five of them displaying a clean stroke. Could sneak into D2 discussion if he continues this play, but most likely impact small college guy.

[player_tooltip player_id="1210370" first="Jackson" last="Munro"] (New Trier)

Munro was one of our most anticipated evals of the event. There has been a lot of hype about him the last few weeks. He broke into the top 30 based on tape from this spring, but this was our first chance to see him in person. Good strength and size. What we most liked about him was how he made quick movements in the paint for scores finding weak spots that he could exploit. Sealed in the high/low game. Turnaround jumper in the lane. Decent area rebounder. Low-majors should give him some consideration as should high D2 programs.

[player_tooltip player_id="925183" first="Braden" last="Huff"] (Glenbard West)

Huff is so so so good! The 6’9” lefty stretch four opened their game against New Trier with three bombs from distance looking like a lefty Porzingis. Quick flick of his wrist and it looks like it is going in every time. Good ball handler that initiated the offense at times. Turnaround jumper in the lane, runners, and is an excellent passer. Rangy defender on the defensive end. Will have to add more strength, but the word “pro” was being thrown around a lot in the coach’s section.

[player_tooltip player_id="996060" first="Caden" last="Pierce"] (Glenbard West)

The first aspect that stood out to us about Pierce in the first time seeing him in person in a while was how big he was. Legit 6’5” with a more defined strength. Really like his all-around versatile game. Plus shooter that hits them at a high clip. Clean and free flowing release. Handles are improving getting in the lane for a few scores and is a good passer just like his whole team. Legit mid-major prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="863598" first="Bobby" last="Durkin"] (Glenbard West)

Durkin is making his debut with Glenbard West after transferring in from Hinsdale South. He is a plus shooter that is at his best as a spot up shooter. Nailed shots at a good rate and used his length on the defensive end. Needs to improve some as an athlete, but the shooting and positional size make him a no brainer at the low-major plus level!

[player_tooltip player_id="1106936" first="Ryan" last="Renfro"] (Glenbard West)

Renfro brings the grit for this squad. Does all the dirty work inside. The power forward presents athletic pop rebounding in traffic, finishing inside, and flashes touch when he needs to around the hoop. Brings a lot of energy to this squad. Would fit in great at a small college.

[player_tooltip player_id="996070" first="Paxton" last="Warden"] (Glenbard West)

Warden is another tremendous glue guy for this squad that will be a huge pick up for a small college. Plus shooter that hits open looks when they present themselves and defends on the perimeter. Tough and versatile wing.
