The EBA Summer League officially tipped off on Tuesday, but last night was my first night in attendance after returning from Pangos All-American Camp. There were six games on tap featuring public and private school teams from around the Baltimore Metropolitan area. Here, we’ll take a look at the standouts.

[player_tooltip player_id="777071" first="Christian" last="Winborne"] | 6’3 | Gilman ’22

Winborne put on a scoring clinic as he finished with 23 points, which was tied as the highest point total for an individual last night. He had his way with any defender that checked him and scored from all three levels. Where he thrived in particular was operating in space, blowing by his defender and showcasing his athleticism and finishing ability around the rim. Winborne scored 23 of his team’s 39 points in the win.

[player_tooltip player_id="957030" first="Jeannot" last="Basima"] | 6’4 | John Carroll ’23

Basima also led his team with 23 points in a win. The Patriots dismantled Team Red by a final of 60-15. What I noticed immediately about Basima is how confident he was in shooting from three. This had been a major flaw in his game, but the confidence and fluidity on the catch getting into those shots lead me to believe he’s put many hours in the gym since the high school season. The 6-foot-4 guard connected on three triples and scored with regularity in transition.

Waruru Mubia | 6’3 | Ballstars ’22

Mubia is an undersized forward, but carries a strong frame and showed he knows how to use it on catches around the paint. He was also a force for his team as a rebounder as indicated by his double-double of 17 points and 13 rebounds. Mubia lifted his team to a 48-41 win over the Soldiers.

[player_tooltip player_id="957058" first="Ian" last="Robinson"] | 6’7 | McDonogh ’23

It was good to see how active Robinson was last night, especially in the early going where he helped set the tone for his team. The 6-foot-7 forward scored around the basket and looked confident in face-up scenarios around the high-post area where he connected on a couple of jumpers. Robinson logged a double-double effort of 10 points and 10 rebounds.

[player_tooltip player_id="1215177" first="Jacob" last="Ayree"] | 6’4 | St. Mary’s ’22

It had been a long time since I saw Ayree live and I was impressed. He led his team in scoring with 11, which isn’t a number that blows you away, but his athleticism is undeniable and it seems as if his jumper continues to improve. He put himself back on my radar and I’d urge Division II and Division III programs to take a close look at him as this summer progresses.

[player_tooltip player_id="837919" first="Tyson" last="Commander"] | 6’4 | John Carroll ’22

Commander made scoring in transition look effortless last night and he made it a point to take advantage of those opportunities as much as possible. He also knocked down a triple on his way to 14 points in the blowout win.
