There was tons of talent on every court and many games went down to the wire, and with so much talent we’ll have to break the standouts up into multiple pieces. Here’s a look at part three of the 17U standouts, with a look at some of the top players from DMV and a very talented Mokan Elite group.
You can check out all the games on the CBG Live Network here!
Rowan Brumbaugh | 6’2” PG | Prospect U
Brumbaugh is a stock rising point guard who is being recruited by high major programs across the country, and his style of play fits certain programs to a t. He’s a highly skilled floor general that sees the floor and delivers passes on the money, he’s a knock down shooter from deep that is consistent and gets hot quickly and he’s a good defender both on the ball and in help side. He’s an underrated athlete that can create shots and finish at the rim, and when he has the ball in his hands he can run a team extremely well.
Travis Roberts Travis Roberts 6'5" | SG Bishop Walsh | 2022 State MD | 6’5” WG | Prospect U
Roberts is an intriguing prospect in the 2022 class out of Bishop Walsh in Maryland, as he’s a good athlete and shot maker with good size on the perimeter. He works perfectly with Brumbaugh as he can run in transition and finish at the rim in traffic, he can shoot it from deep and attack closeouts and he can post smaller guys and create shots to take pressure off of him. He’s also a good defender that can guard the other team’s best player, and he still has room to grow.
Cameron Whitmore Cameron Whitmore 6'7" | PF Archbishop Spalding | 2022 State #30 Nation MD | 6’6” PF | Team Melo
Whitmore is going to continue to be one of the top stock risers at the high major level as coaches get to see him in person for the first time in July, and the hyper athletic forward was fantastic throughout the weekend. He’s where the power forward spot is heading in basketball as he isn’t the tallest guy but he’s big and strong, super explosive allowing him to finish above the rim and guard taller players and he’s able to step out and make shots and put it on the deck as well. He’s a mismatch nightmare that can guard multiple positions and impact the game in a number of ways and will only continue to get better moving forward.
Bryce Lindsay Bryce Lindsay 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2022 State MD | 6’3” PG | Team Melo
Lindsay had a breakout weekend for Melo, and was huge in their upset win over the host CP3 in their last game of the weekend. The 6’3” guard is a guy who can play on and off the basketball, he’s a dual threat to score it and make plays for others and he’s able to get hot quickly and take over games, which is exactly what he did against CP3 hitting five three-pointers in the second half and showing very deep range while doing so. He’s an under the radar guy who will see coaches from multiple levels come his way in June and July.
Trey Thomas Trey Thomas 6'3" | PG Wise | 2022 MD | 6’3” CG | Team Melo
Thomas is as important as anyone on this team, as he brings a mix of skill, athleticism and toughness to his team and makes winning plays regularly. He’s strong and shifty off the bounce, allowing him to get to the rim and finish through contact, and he’s improved in his ability to knock down shots from deep and the midrange off the bounce. He’s highly talented and gets after it on both ends of the floor, and when he’s on the floor whatever team he is on is always better.
Skyy Clark | 6’3” PG | Mokan Elite
The Kentucky commit came into the event as one of the most talked about players in the attendance, and he had his hands full as he was matched up with a number of nationally ranked guards and showed why he’s considered one of the best in the country. Clark is a smooth guard with good strength and is shifty off the bounce, he has great vision and feel for the game to make others better and he’s an elite level shot maker that can create and make shots from multiple levels. He’s a natural floor general and makes his team better when he’s on the floor because he’s able to get wherever he wants to whenever he wants to.
Aidan Shaw | 6’9” F | Mokan Elite
Shaw is one of four nationally ranked players on this Mokan team, and he’s arguably the most versatile one with his mix of size, skill and athleticism. At 6’9”, Shaw is able to play and guard on the perimeter and in the post, and his length and athleticism makes him a problem as he can finish above the rim, come help side and block shots and alter shots at the rim. He can make shots from deep and handle it in transition, and he’s simply a walking mismatch that is one of the big reasons Mokan is so tough to match up with.
Felix Okpara | 6’10” PF | Mokan Elite
Okpara is a nationally ranked big man that is still raw and developing, but his physical and athletic tools make him extremely dangerous on the court. At 6’10”, he’s long and athletic allowing him to play above the rim on both ends, he’s mobile and can run the court with his guards for easy buckets and he has the lateral quickness to switch onto wings and guards and use his length to cause problems. He showed good touch and even stepped out behind the three-point line, and he has a budding skill set that’s only going to get better moving forward.
Tarris Reed | 6’9” C | Mokan Elite
Reed filled out an impressive front line for Mokan as he was the true big on the group that brought a more physical presence, but he’s still very skilled and is another walking mismatch for them. He’s a big and strong guy that is surprisingly athletic for his size, and he has great touch in the post, midrange and from deep. His ability to run the floor at his size and score it from multiple levels while also providing a physical inside presence makes him one of the top bigs in the country.
