Four Leaders from 2021
Sam Phillips Sam Phillips 6'2" | CG Cashmere | 2021 State WA 6-3 Point Guard 2021 Cashmere High School
Phillips has scored over 1,000 points in his high school career. He possesses a steady hand and a pure shooting stroke. He is always on balance and picks the right times to make big plays.. After four games into the season he is averaging over 20 points and has the Bulldogs undefeated.
Carter Alberts 6-6 Forward 2021 Cashmere High School
Alberts is a Carroll College commit and he is another big reason why the Bulldogs are undefeated. Versatile enough to play the three or four at the next level, Alberts uses his strength and coordination around the basket to grab offensive rebounds and then score through contact.
Gavin Burns 6-1 2021 Point Guard Ephrata High School
Burns is the straw that stirs the drink for the up-tempo offense and transition game employed by the Tigers. Burns does not have the prototypical point guard game. He is a thick-bodied lefty with great footwork and vision in the lane. He won’t over-dribble and throws great long passes. When he does have to handle it in the front court, he is an extremely clever passer and simply will not be rattled under pressure.
Garrett Long Garrett Long 6'2" | PG Wenatchee | 2021 State WA 6-2 Point Guard 2021 Wenatchee High School
Another Carroll College signee out of eastern Washington, Long has proven that the long wait to the start of the WIAA season was not wasted. He has exploded onto the court and is playing at an unbelievably high level. His stat line from a recent win included 37 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 assists. He will challenge the returning starters next season and will get himself on the floor as a true freshman.
Four from 2022 Ready to Launch
TreyVaughn Bierlink 6-3 2022
Bierlink is a silky-smooth shooter with range way beyond the line. In open-court his feel for the game is evident and defensively he has great anticipation as a help defender and will come from the weak side to snag a pass or block a shot. He needs little time to get a shot off and if he is not open, he simply backs up.
Saul Alvarez 5-10 2022 Quincy High School
What greater asset can a point guard have than being a penetrator? Alvarez has a stop and start stutter move that he sets up with his right and comes back to his dominant left hand. He is quick enough to be a paint toucher every possession. He drives, draws, and dishes as well as anybody in his entire league
Chase Wilson 6-7 2022 Forward Okanogan
Wilson has scored over 20 three times in this early season already. Not many high school players are as effective as he is at carving out space for himself inside. He understands how to seal and where to ask for the ball. He does not rush his moves and has the ability to elevate over outstretched arms and scores even when being closely guarded or double-teamed. He is not purely a low post, back to the basket scorer though. He can face-up and take players off the dribble as well.
Nate Harding 6-1 2021 Point Guard Chelan High School
Harding is a scoring point guard with a lithe body and graceful moves. He has a nose for the basket on drives and an extensive finishing package. His ability to keep opposing players in front without fouling has shown growth. By adding the ability to safely and quickly advance the ball in transition with the pass and not be so reliant on his dribbling speed and handles, he will become a serious four-year prospect. He has gotten taller since last season and added strength during the Covid off-season.
Two Dual Sport Threats
Braiden Boyd 6-5 2022 Wing Chelan High School
After five games Boyd is averaging 12 points, and 8 rebounds. He has also hit multiple three point shots and had one powerful left hand dunk on the break. Unfortunately for college basketball coaches, Boyd has already committed to Washington State University to play baseball where the southpaw will pursue a pitching career.
Reed Stamps Reed Stamps 6'6" | PF Chelan | 2022 State WA 6-6 2022 Post Chelan High School
Stamps has nearly the same stat line as Boyd; 11 points 7 rebounds and the ability to hit threes. While not as likely to dunk, Stamps has terrific court vision and handles the ball well for his size. He has been taking more close shots this season and he is a capable post defender at the next level. Stamps, however, will be looking to be a quarterback beyond high school and has gained interest from several four year schools.
Two from 2024 with Bright Futures
Aidan Bews 6-6 2024 Quincy High School
Bews is a basketball player that defends 1-5 based on match-ups. He has been starting for Quincy and holding his own against older, stronger players. His greatest attribute right now is his shot-blocking. He has blocked shots with his left hand, right hand, at the basket and on the perimeter. As his body fills out, he will likely be a defensive force in the league for years to come.
Dylan Jay 6-2 Wing Chelan High School
Jay has an extremely high motor, huge hands, long legs and a love for defense. The western Washington transplant has burst onto the scene and coaches have noticed. Offensively his overall skill package is remarkably balanced. He is not just a shooter, driver, post player or passer. He does it all well. Not sure if he will be a point guard that can post up, a wing that can ball handle, or a post that shoot. He is the Swiss Army Knife that possesses many tools.
