Two weekends back the Prep Hoops Circuit was in six different locations. Here are the names honored as the best of the best from Session 8.
Matas Buzelis of Full Package (IL). Matas is a 6-foot-8, versatile, top 50 level national prospect in the 2023 class. Buzelis is from Illinois but plays at Brewster Academy in New Hampshire. In the Midwest Showdown Buzelis led his team to wins over Wisconsin PGC, Looney Power 5, Team Haliburton, and World Hoops Elite, and none of the games were close. Matas was equally an impact guy defensively as he was offensively. Special all around talent.
Bobby Durkin Bobby Durkin 6'6" | SF Hinsdale South | 2022 State IL of Breakaway (IL). This one is pretty simple: Bobby Durkin Bobby Durkin 6'6" | SF Hinsdale South | 2022 State IL shot 24 of 42 from the arc for the entire weekend! The Havoc that was in the Havoc in the Heartland tournament was teams scrambling to try and get a hand up on Bobby Durkin Bobby Durkin 6'6" | SF Hinsdale South | 2022 State IL every time he touched the basketball. Breakaway went 4-0 and the 6-foot-6 Durkin (a 2022) is likely on a number of recruiting lists after that amazing weekend performance.
Shawn Jones Jr Shawn Jones Jr 6'6" | SF Shadow Creek | 2022 State TX of Drive Nation (TX). Jones is a 6-foot-5 forward that ranks with the top 200 players in the 2022 class nationwide. Jones led his team to a 4-0 record in the Space City Collision including a 30 point explosion leading his team to the biggest win of the weekend. Scored on all three levels and defended at an all tournament level as well. Houston, TCU, and LSU are among the several schools that have offered.
Maximus Nelson of Wisconsin PGC (IL). Playground Basketball Club went 4-0 in the Midwest Showdown in Appleton, Wisconsin and it was a balanced performance throughout the weekend. The player that stepped up the most in each game was Nelson, a versatile double-double threat that scored at the rim, on the move, and he rebounded at a high level. Nelson has offers from Milwaukee, Toledo, and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.
Trey Pettigrew of Mac Irvin Fire (IL). Six-foot-3 combo guard Trey Pettigrew is one of the fastest rising prospects in the nation at the moment. A top 50 area level national talent with offers from Illinois, Georgia, Missouri, and others, Pettigrew plays for the Mac Irvin Fire EYBL squad and led them to three wins in Indiana. Trey averaged 21 points and five assists over the four Prep Hoops Circuit games he played.
Leland Walker Leland Walker 5'11" | PG North Central | 2022 VA of Team Teague (IN). One of the most successful teams on the PH Circuit this year has been Team Teague. Weekend after weekend they are facing top competition from around the Midwest and regularly coming out on top. The leader? High major offered six-foot combo guard Leland Walker Leland Walker 5'11" | PG North Central | 2022 VA . Few lead guards play with the pace that Walker does consistently which is why the Big East is all over him as a future prospect.
