Highly-ranked players throughout the country showed up and showed out, making the event as special as ever. Here we’ll take a look at some of the top Sophomore shot-makers from this remarkable weekend.
Cannon Edgecombe – Shooting Guard – Showtime Elite LA 2023
Showtime Elite sharpshooter, Cannon Edgecombe brought the heat from deep, whenever he was able to step into the shot and shoot the ball in rhythm, he was an automatic bucket. A true dangerous threat from outside, Edgecombe must be accounted for at all times as he moves exceptionally well off the ball and within the flow of the offense searching for holes beyond the arc, where he then needs very little time and space to get a shot off. One of the best things about Cannon Edgecombe’s games was that he didn’t have to dominate the ball to be an effective scorer, his quick thinking and quick shooting propelled him greatly.
Carter Hjeimstad – Shooting Guard – Rogue 2023
6-foot-4-inch, Carter Hjeimstad proved to be a true floor spacer that showed flashes and the potential to become a deadly spot-up shooting asset. Good poise and confidence in his shooting ability. Although he had an array of areas to score from, Carter picked his spots well and never hesitated to fire, there wasn’t a single spot on the floor he couldn’t make a shot from. Hjeimstad displayed a wonderful touch as well as accuracy on every shot he took, whether it was a jumper from deep, mid-range, or a floater inside the lane, Carter made sure to put a nice soft touch and a good spin on the ball.
Corleone Dandridge – Shooting Guard – Better off Living Dreams (B.O.L.D.) 2023
Throughout this year’s Prep Hoops Circuit, The B.O.L.D. scoring guard, Corleone Dandridge has proven to be a complete three-level bucket getter with a fantastic touch from every inch of the floor. His shooting mechanics are strong, his release is very fluid, he shows great footwork when getting his feet set, puts a good rotation on the ball, and shoots it with consistency from the inside out. All Dandridge needs is the slightest bit of space and he can get his shot off, even when tightly defended he displayed the elevation and length to drill mid-range jumpers over the defense. When spreading the floor, you couldn’t allow him to get open in the corner, he’s practically automatic when catching and shooting from that area. While playing against the Houston Cougars, it was simply a layup drill for Corleone as he consistently found ways to finish near the hoop, sometimes it was from attacking, and other times he made it happen by constantly cutting through the lane looking for the pass. Early on, Dandridge realized the defensive interior was weak and no one could defend him in one-on-one situations, so he relentlessly took his man off the dribble, got into the paint, initiated contact, and finished from awkward angles. Corleone Dandridge has continuously shown that he’s an efficient, high-volume, shot maker with all of the tools to become a next-level shooting specialist.
JaKobe Dykes – Shooting Guard/Small Forward – Showtime Elite LA 2023
The variety of ways this kid has of creating his own shot and putting points on the board is something special at times. This all-around scorer was at his best when playing off sheer instincts and creating for himself off the dribble, and scoring from multiple spots on the court. His ability to stretch the floor was remarkable, Dykes is someone that becomes a threat with or without the ball as soon as he crosses the halfcourt, he loves to stop on a dime and put up a shot, which he does with ease and usually when the defense least expects it. You cannot allow this guy to get a clear view of the basket as he walks up the floor or you’ll regret it. The worst thing a defense could do was allow him to catch the ball in the corner, it’s was a hot spot for him and he was phenomenal at taking the baseline to pull-up or finish at the hoop with a slam.
