There are tons of highly-decorated guards who will hone their skills this summer. But there are a lot of other junior guards trying to get noticed by colleges and prep for big senior seasons. Here are a handful we can’t wait to watch:
Jared Eitzman, Beloit-St. John’s:
The 6-foot junior has a really nice season to build on. He averaged 10.6 points and 5.2 boards last year, en route to third team in 1A Div 2. He can play inside and out, and has a dangerous stroke from distance.
Damian Foster, Waverly:
Foster really came on as a junior for a team that wound up being pretty good. Waverly took some lumps along the way, but they really came on. Foster led the Bulldogs to state with 21 in the sub-state finals. He put up 14 in the season ending defeat against Elyria Christian. He’s a good ball handler and athlete who plays with aggressiveness at both ends.
Servando Gonzalez Servando Gonzalez 5'10" | CG Lakin | 2022 State KS , Lakin:
The 5-foot-10 guard helped Lakin to the top of the 3A rankings for most of the season. He is a dynamic 3-point threat who will have to take over a lot more point guard-type responsibility next year. He’s got the athleticism for the job, and will have time this summer to grow his game.
Brayden Meseke Brayden Meseke 6'0" | CG Wabaunsee | 2022 State KS , Wabaunsee (pictured):
Last time we saw Meseke, he led a furious comeback against Hillsboro in the state finals. His club came up just short, but not before the junior guard racked up 22 points, most of them in the second half. Meseke is a strong, aggressive guard his finds ways to get off his jumper in the lane and creates a lot of opportunities with his ball hawking defense.
Harrison Voth Harrison Voth 6'1" | SG Cheney | 2022 State KS , Cheney:
After earning honorable mention 3A as a sophomore, Voth earned second team status this season, leading Cheney as one of the best 3A teams all season. They got stopped by Trinity Academy, but that doesn’t mar their fine campaign. Voth is a dynamite shooter who will have a chance this spring to develop his versatile game before he hits the gridiron as a top-flight quarterback.
