Continue ReadingLooking ahead to the premier event of the weekend with talent loaded from around the country, we will focus on the the guys who are hidden on some of the teams in deeper pools that who will be at the event that have a ton of talent and potential from the Kansas scene, who will be very well represented at the event.
JD Roane, 6’1 Guard, Blue Valley North, KC Spurs White (2022): Roane was a reliable option for the loaded state champs and is a steady guard. Does not turn the ball over, can hit open shots on the perimeter, handles pressure well, and has been a part of a winning culture. With more usage, responsibility on the court, and opportunities on the grassroots scene, Roane could take a nice leap this spring.
Trent Duffey, 6’2 Guard, Hayden, SSA 17U White (2022): A guard who much like Roane, is solid across the board. Tough nosed and long armed defender, a very willing and able rebounder on both ends of the floor, a lethal mid range jumper, and mixes in a sweet floater game with it. One of the more consistent solid players I have scene in quite some time, coaches can always expect consistency from Duffey.
Mason Gomez Mason Gomez 6'3" | SG Topeka | 2023 KS , 6’2 Guard, Topeka West, 94×50 (2023): Gomez is a terrific three ball shooter who will be able to get a ton of nice looks on the grass roots scene with the play making guards along with him. He has great length and size at the 16U level. The lefty is a high level shooter especially from the corners where he can do some damage. Was really good at the JV level this year.
Marcel Gardner, 6’5 Forward, Wichita Southeast, Oz Elite 2023-Brown: Looking through the rosters Gardner is an intriguing name I will keep an eye on this weekend in the 16U division. Has great size and athletic potential and is a guy who with a solid spring and summer of development could be a massive stock riser and a good contributer as a junior at Wichita SE.
Will Keech, 6’2 Guard, Olathe East, KC Spurs Silver 2022: Keech is a very smart basketball player and moves on the floor well and with a purpose. Tough straight line driver of the basketball, plays off of the catch with decisive decision making, and can knock down open shots. He is a willing screener out on the perimeter and relocates well and ready to play off of it.
George Nikolov, 6’7 Forward, Derby, Midwest Magic Resa (2022): The big bodied forward from Derby is very intriguing. He has terrific size, can get in a passing lane with his instinct, and has some handle to push the ball out in front. He has a long frame and can do some work up at the rim and in the paint. Derby has a ton of talent and hoping to see Nikolov use this spring and summer to really expand his game and be a dominant force with his size and sneaky athleticism. Could be a really nice spring and summer run.
