The SSA program was showcased throughout the age groups, and the 17 you teams really put together a strong overall showing. Team PAC made some noise with some big time stat lines from players, and United fielded some competitive teams. Let’s look at some of the stand outs from the Kansas area from the weekend.
Guards
Nahcs Wahwassuck Nahcs Wahwassuck 6'5" | CG Royal Valley | 2022 State KS , 6’5 PG, Royal Valley, SSA 2022 Black (Pictured): The dynamic and versatile guard from Royal Valley showed that he is primed for a big time spring and summer and picked up massive recognition with his play over the weekend. He showed off the complete arsenal, his scoring prowess dropping 23 against the loaded Illinois Hoopstars 17 group and then came back in day two with a stat sheet stuffing performances such as a 13 point, 4 assist, 4 rebound, and 4 steal game against New Mexico D1. His passing and playmaking may be his best and most underrated aspects of his game as well as his elite defensive ability with great length, instincts, and range.
Zaid Dajani Zaid Dajani 6'4" | CG Olathe Northwest | 2022 State KS , 6’4 G, Olathe Northwest, SSA 2022 Black: Dajani displayed his next level athleticism, finishing around the rim ability, and lethal jump shot especially off the dribble. He averaged 20 points per game over the event and was getting it done at all three levels including erupting for 28 points in a game against New Mexico D1. He is a quick and electric defender that can make plays in the gaps or heat up ball handlers and got on the glass as well grabbing more than 3 rebounds in each game. His stock and level of recruitment took a big leap.
Trevor Mcbride Trevor Mcbride 6'2" | CG Basehor Linwood | 2022 State KS , 6’2 Point Guard, Basehor-Linwood, SSA 2022 Black: McBride’s IQ, effort, and ability make him a second coach on the floor for your team, and he will do the same for whatever college program he ends up at and it is a trait that always stands out when he takes the floor. He can hoop too, averaging 8.5 points, 3.8 assists, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.7 steals per game. His playmaking ability continues to grow and he got guys great looks all weekend playing in pick and roll, setting great screens and relocating off of them, and also got to his spots in the pull up game and knocked down shots. He blew up a ton of action of offense and forced a ton of turnovers.
Howard Johnson Howard Johnson 6'0" | SG Junction City | 2022 State KS , 6’1 Guard, Junction City, SSA 2022 Black: The on ball defense was on point with Johnson this weekend, staying in front of and pestering some really solid ball handlers and guards all weekend. He shot the ball for 3 at a really high level as well, highlighted with a game where he hit 3 threes in 4 trips down the floor. He limited the turnovers with the ball in his hands and was great at getting out in to transition and getting pressure on the defense. He averaged 9.5 points per game and averaged 2.25 3 point field goals made per game.
Max Alexander Max Alexander 6'0" | PG Next Level Prep | 2022 KS , 6’1 PG, Buddy Buckets: Alexander is a great spark plug for the loaded back court for Team Buddy Buckets out of Oklahoma. The lefty played extremely well this weekend for the club and was highlighted with a 15 point outing against Nebraska Supreme in which he helped get his team back into the game with his scoring ability with the ball in his hands. Alexander is able to show off a lot more of his playmaking game with the elite shooters and athletes on that roster. Great start to the spring for Alexander.
Trent Duffey, 6’3 Guard, Hayden, SSA 2022 White: Duffey has always been the epitome of a consistent basketball player that most teams would love to have to build a winning roster. He got the job done this weekend helping lead the squad to a quality 3-1 record. He averaged 12.6 points per game on the weekend and his patented intermediate game was on full display with his soft touch floater and pull up jumper. His energy and rebounding was great all weekend too, and with him rarely turning the ball over, usually only produces positive plays while on the floor.
Wesley Oakley, 6’3 Guard, Hays, SSA 2022 White: Oakley was a high level 3 point shooter all weekend, including two half time buzzer beating threes that he drilled off the catch. He is a terrific catch and shoot 3 point shooter and someone eyes need to be on the rest of the summer, especially those needing a hard nosed 3 and D guard. He finished the weekend strong with a 10 point outing in a win.
Connor Robertson, 6’5 Guard, Sunrise Christian, 816 Varsity: Robertson has tremendous length and shooting ability, a lethal combination on the basketball court. Nothing highlighted this more than his 6 made three performance in a win on Saturday night. He has a quick and smooth trigger and can get his shot off on the move, off the bounce, or in rhythm off catch and shoot situations.
