The season is set to begin in a few weeks and it’s time to look at the top players that are coming back. We checked with the coaches in 4A to see who they are expecting to return and contribute. Based on the responses we received, these are the top scorers that are returning (listed with ppg):

Analysis: [player_tooltip player_id="1079551" first="Mason" last="Ainsworth"] (2022 Marshfield) could be one of the biggest sleepers in the state. The shifty 6-foot guard can really knock down the deep ball but can also create off of the dribble in a variety of ways. While he has two other double-digit scorers on the team in fellow juniors [player_tooltip player_id="1079544" first="Pierce" last="Davidson"] and Dominic Montiel, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him average over 20 points per game again.

[player_tooltip player_id="1079530" first="Marshall" last="Allen"] (2022 Tillamook) and Jacob Cook (2021 Klamath Union) are the only two returnees that averaged a double-double last season. Allen, who stands 6-foot-4, can score both inside and out and got a lot of experience playing AAU ball this past year with International Elite and Elite 24. Cook has good size at 6-foot-5 and is a multi-sport athlete as his main sport is baseball.

Others to keep an eye on this year in the scoring race are [player_tooltip player_id="965071" first="Carson" last="Molan"] (2021 Cascade), [player_tooltip player_id="855965" first="Ben" last="Morehouse"] (2021 Marist), and [player_tooltip player_id="964555" first="Jacob" last="Axmaker"] (2022 Stayton). Molan is a gritty competitor who also plays point guard for Cascade. Morehouse is a shooter with size who should get more opportunities this year with the departure of several seniors. Axmaker could be in line for the biggest jump in scoring average. The 6-foot guard was injured last season and has been averaging almost 30 points per game in AAU ball so far.
