I recently published my 1000th article for Prep Hoops. I’ve covered multiple players from multiple states. I’ve been lucky to cover and evaluate players currently playing professional basketball all the way to high schoolers that have made a difference to their team from the sideline. In honor of all of you for sticking with me through over 1000 articles, I’m going to tell you about 10 point guards that you may or may not know, but definitely should know, from the class of 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id="1067870" first="Jonah" last="Botardo"] (PG, Troy Athens)

Botardo may be on the smaller side, but he makes a big difference. He plays with no fear and is always willing to mix it up with the bigs. Botardo plays with an attacking mentality and can play at any pace. I’m looking for a big senior season from him.

[player_tooltip player_id="863920" first="Jason" last="Drake"] (CG, Ferndale)

We have him listed as a combo guard, but Drake spent a lot of the state playoffs with the ball in his hands. He was phenomenal in that role. Drake showed the ability to put his team on his back and will them to wins. I firmly believe that he will absolutely blow up next high school season.

[player_tooltip player_id="983513" first="Kobe" last="Kambestad"] (PG, West Catholic)

Kambestad is strong with his right hand and can drive the lane and finish through contact or in traffic. Defenders can’t play off him though, because if they do, he is liable to bury a triple over their outstretched hand.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068265" first="Bashir" last="Neely"] (PG, Grand Haven)

Honestly, Neely needs to be ranked higher. He has excellent vertical speed that he uses on an aggressive straight line drive. Neely has shown range on his jumper that extends beyond the arc. He’s a solid finisher that goes up strong in traffic.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068153" first="Tayshawn" last="Robinson"] (PG, Taylor)

Robinson has played some really nice basketball, especially as the high school season rolled along. He plays downhill on offense and can score from mid range with a nice floater from the lane. He seems most comfortable working off the dribble from the left side of the floor toward the lane.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068123" first="Evan" last="Solomon"] (PG, Charlevoix)

I really like Solomon and his upside as a prospect. He has good positional size and strength and has a very nice feel for the game. Solomon is a high IQ player that really seems to understand how to play the point guard position.

[player_tooltip player_id="983509" first="Nick" last="Szczechowski"] (PG, Riverview Gabriel Richard)

Szczechowski is a throwback lead guard. He’s a pass first floor general that likes to set the offense and find his teammates. Szczechowski is a physically strong guard that can outmuscle a lot of opponents. He’s solid with the ball in his hands and makes high percentage passes.

[player_tooltip player_id="863921" first="Keegan" last="Waslik"] (PG, Clarkston)

I like the way that Waslick finished off the season and I believe that he could come out firing next season. He’s a student of the game with a huge upside as a player. Waslick knows how to run a team offensively and has developed into a solid leader.
