The future Truman State lead guard was named the captain of the 1A all-tournament team by the media, and we agree with that selection. Shearer was fantastic all week in leading Montezuma to the school’s first state championship since 1990. He shot 50% from the floor on the week, led the field in scoring, and found other ways to contribute when he was held in check in the second half of the state championship game. While he was stellar in the quarterfinal win over Lake Mills, scoring 25 points, I think he was at his best in the semifinals against Grand View Christian, setting the tone early by attacking GVC big man [player_tooltip player_id="956875" first="Daniel" last="Tobiloba"] and showing that he and the Braves weren’t scared of his size.

Burgess was vital for the Braves all week, pulling down 12 boards a game, and his presence in the paint was huge all week on the defensive end as well. He blocked 4 shots in the championship game, including the game-saving block on an [player_tooltip player_id="682273" first="Austin" last="Hilmer"] 3 with under 10 seconds left that could’ve tied the game. The 6-4 big man has great hands, rebounds everything, and is a player who impacts the game on both ends.

Shearer's primary running mate on the perimeter, Watts was strong all week on both ends of the floor. He's a smart, physical guard with limitless range, and while he shot just 33.3% from the arc on the week, he knocked down some big shots in key moments. He was second on the Braves in scoring during the week.

The Lynx lead guard didn't have his best week shooting the ball, but lots of players struggle to shoot in the massive Wells Fargo Arena with no backdrop. Despite his struggles shooting, he still found ways to impact the game on both ends of the floor through his defense and ability to distribute the ball. He's the heart-and-soul of North Linn.

Kurt battled back from a knee injury during the season and played superb basketball on both ends of the floor all week for the Lynx. The 6-2 junior wing shot 56% from the floor, knocked down four of his eight 3-point attempts and showed the ability to be a playmaker for others, dishing out 10 assists on the week.
