Abington won, 56-54, on a left handed, scoop lay-up in traffic by Rod Bell. Abington (now 13-5) moves on to play the No. 9 seed Lower Merion in the District 1-6A Final. CB East ends their season with a 14-4 record.
Below is a look at several of the college prospects that took the court last night for this District 1-6A tournament contest.
Central Bucks East:
Jacob Cummiskey – 5’11” / Freshman / Combo Guard: This Class of 2024 prospect struggled with foul trouble and Abington’s tremendous defense in the 1st half and only scored 2 points on the night, but there are elements of Cummiskey’s game that should excite college coaches. He moves well without the ball, owns a high basketball IQ, is poised beyond his years and can play either guard spot. Last night’s scorebook may not show it, but Cummiskey can also score the rock. This season he posted double-digit points in numerous games and recently tallied 10 points as well as the game winner vs Boyertown in the District 1-6A Quarterfinals. Cummiskey is Uncommitted.
Joe Jackman Joe Jackman 5'11" | CG Central Bucks East | 2021 State PA – 5’11” / Senior / CB East / Combo Guard: Jackman (a 2019-20 1st team All-Area selection) is an outside threat who owns, as the kids say, “in the gym” range. His text book mechanics allow Jackman to drain threes from the stand still, on the secondary break or off screen action. He splashed home 3 threes last night vs Abington on his way to 27 total points. He now has over 130 made threes in his career. However, Jackman is not a one skill set player. He owns enough handles that he can run at the point guard spot for long stretches and/or he can score off the dribble from the wing. When you combine Jackman’s skills with his leadership and poise on the court, there is no doubt he will play at the next level. Jackman is Uncommitted.
Jack Hamilton – 6’9” / Senior / Power Forward: Hamilton is a two sport athlete (high level baseball prospect), so it should come as no surprise that while he stands 6’9” this athletic big displayed solid guard skills. His decent handles, good shooting stroke and ability to move without the ball were all shown last night. Not many prospects with Hamilton’s height and build can shot fake a 3PA, quickly blow by several defenders with the dribble and then finish at the rim. At the defensive end, his height, wingspan and hops make Hamilton a high level rim protector. Last night he only scored 4 points vs. Abington but his basketball upside is tremendous. Unfortunately Hamilton is committed to Lehigh for baseball (pitcher), but he should consider walking on for the Mountain Hawks basketball team.
Abington:
Caleb Baker – 6’3’’ / Senior / Wing: Baker has a well-earned reputation as an athletic, scoring wing who can get buckets in transition, via the offensive glass and from behind the arc. So for him to finish the game with only 9 points means that CB East’s defense did something right last night. Baker may be the Galloping Ghosts most well rounded player and despite his low scoring output last night, he did have a big impact on the game. He rebounded well at both ends, displayed excellent court vision by finding open teammates for buckets and hit a couple key shots. Baker was a highly recruited WR/TE and is committed to West Chester University for football.
Rob Bell – 6’0’’ / Senior / Combo Guard: Despite foul trouble in 1st half, Bell recorded 19 points and scored the game winning, left handed, scoop lay-in as time expired in double-OT. The lay-in came off a designed set (a top of the arc ball screen for Bell) during which Bell went left until he found an opening and then converted in heavy traffic. So obviously this prospect is not afraid of the high pressure moments. Additionally, he is lightening quick, can score with either hand and displayed a high basketball IQ. In a 2nd round District 1-6A tourney win over Plymouth Whitemarsh he posted a ridiculous stat line of 18 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Bell is Uncommitted.
Oreck Frazier – 6’1’’ / Senior / Wing: The first thing that jumps out at you about Frazier is his physical attributes. He appears taller than his listed 6’1”, has a long wingspan and boasts a jacked physique. In short, he simply looks like a freak athlete. When you see him play, you quickly realize he is in fact, a freak athlete. In this contest Frazier scored 17 points, including a last second 3 pointer from top of the arc to tie the game at 54 and send this thriller to a second OT. Previous to his one shining moment, the talented wing player proved he possess excellent handles, a smooth jumper and quick lateral movement. Frazier also appears to be an excellent defensive player. Frazier is an All-State selection on the gridiron (RB/DB) and is committed to Harvard for football. Coach Amaker would be wise to send this prospect a basketball walk-on invite immediately.
