The Class 2A season ended as many people thought it would end at the beginning of the season. Rayville and Port Allen were on a collision course for a third time and Dunham and Isidore Newman would meet in the Division III finals. In both situations, we ended up with back-to-back state champions. While the state finals were a repeat, the class 2A all-state teams will not be as easy to predict. However, I will take a stab at it and predict who will land on the 1st team in class 2A and viable contenders for second team selections.

1st Team (Alphabetical order)

[player_tooltip player_id="530977" first="Jourdain" last="Dishmond"] (6’7″ | Senior | HS Menard)

[player_tooltip player_id="781843" first="Tawasky" last="Johnson"] (6’1″ | Senior | Port Allen)

[player_tooltip player_id="970120" first="Chris" last="Lockett"] (6’4″ | Sophomore | Isidore Newman)

[player_tooltip player_id="765941" first="Kashie" last="Natt"] (6’2″ | Senior | Rayville)

[player_tooltip player_id="530995" first="Carlos" last="Stewart"] (6’2″ | Senior | Dunham)

When it comes to the 2A all-state first team, it really is a collection of some of the best talent the state has to offer. [player_tooltip player_id="530995" first="Carlos" last="Stewart"] is the reigning 2A most outstanding player. After his otherworldly performances at Marsh Madness, I see him repeating as a 1st team selection and MOP. [player_tooltip player_id="765941" first="Kashie" last="Natt"] had similar numbers to the ones he put up last season. His double-doubles game after game should make him a 1st team selection. [player_tooltip player_id="970120" first="Chris" last="Lockett"] was 11-2A MVP and was the leading scorer for Newman as they lost to Dunham in the final. That should be enough to grab a first team spot.

[player_tooltip player_id="530977" first="Jourdain" last="Dishmond"] saw his season end as it did last season with a loss to Isidore Newman in the playoffs. However, I think his semifinal game, along with the 15 (points) and 10 (rebounds) for the season, will give him enough ammo to land on the first team. [player_tooltip player_id="781843" first="Tawasky" last="Johnson"] definitely saved his best for last as he won the 2A title game most outstanding player award. The way he closed out the season may give him the fifth spot by the sportswriters. His selection may be a tight one however.

2nd Team All-state contenders

[player_tooltip player_id="1123507" first="Travis" last="Zeno"] (5’10″ | Senior | Franklin) - To be honest, Zeno and his 21 (points) and 6 (assists) are hard to leave off of the first team. While his semifinal game was not the best, his season long production will definitely give him a 2nd team nod. If he ends up first team, I can definitely understand.

[player_tooltip player_id="1045512" first="Parker" last="McNees"] (6’2″ | Senior | Notre Dame) - McNees was the 6-2A MVP and had a standout season with his new team. He is another player that has very good numbers to warrant a first team selection. His name will be another tough call for the writers.

Elijah Pete (6’2″ | Senior | Lafayette Christian) - The LCA senior had a great season averaging 17 (points) and 8 (rebounds) for one of the final four in Division III. Being that he is a senior, he will probably get the nod over frosh [player_tooltip player_id="1123497" first="Kameron" last="Williams"]. It will be close though.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051631" first="J’Michael" last="Gray"] (6’1″ | Junior | Franklin) - Gray was the 2020 7-2A MVP and an honorable mention all-state selection. His junior year he came back with a season where he averaged 19, 5, and 5. Those numbers are hard to keep off the first team let alone the 2nd. He is a lock for one of them.

[player_tooltip player_id="931049" first="Zyquarius" last="Cowart"] (6’1″ | Senior | Rayville) - Cowart is one of the better shooters in the state and was a main cog in Rayville remaining at the top of the standings all season. He did not get selected to any team last season but should have solid numbers for a second team selection.

[player_tooltip player_id="1051643" first="Javonte" last="Howard"] (5’9″ | Junior | Lakeview) - Howard does so much for the Gators. He scores, rebounds, plays pressure defense, and facilitates the offense. What he does would warrant a second team nomination. His numbers may not be enough though.

[player_tooltip player_id="932845" first="Jawarren" last="Cade"] (6’1″ | Junior | Many) - Cade played a big part in Many ending up number three at the end of the season in 2A. He played a massive role in scoring until they gained some help from the football field. While he carried a large load, he still may fall short on a second team nomination. He will be in the running however.

[player_tooltip player_id="977263" first="Johnny" last="Nelson"] (6’2″ | Senior | Rapides) - Nelson is a player that can score anywhere on the floor. He is one the leaders on Rapides team and has a strong case for second team. I think he may end up with another honorable mention nod however.

Corey Givens (2021) of Morris Jeff Community, [player_tooltip player_id="1127253" first="Tony" last="Percy"] at Rayville, and [player_tooltip player_id="1128492" first="D’evin" last="McDonald"] from Red River may also make a case for 2nd team. We will see who is selected when the all-state team is named next week.

2nd Team All-state contenders

Travis Zeno Travis Zeno 5'10" | PG Franklin | 2021 State LA (5’10″ | Senior | Franklin) - To be honest, Zeno and his 21 (points) and 6 (assists) are hard to leave off of the first team. While his semifinal game was not the best, his season long production will definitely give him a 2nd team nod. If he ends up first team, I can definitely understand.

Elijah Pete (6’2″ | Senior | Lafayette Christian) - The LCA senior had a great season averaging 17 (points) and 8 (rebounds) for one of the final four in Division III. Being that he is a senior, he will probably get the nod over frosh Kameron Williams Kameron Williams 6'3" | SG Helen Cox | 2021 State LA . It will be close though.
