Guards tend to win or lose games in the TSSAA State Playoffs, though some teams trot out overwhelming, dominating big men. Read about the forwards that most deeply impacted games Wednesday, March 17th.

Riley Galler (Cosby)

"I knew we couldn't physically hold him down," said Pickett County Head Coach Joseph Amonett. "I knew we had to stop their guard play."

Galler scored 13 points and hauled in 9 rebounds in 24 game minutes. His game was limited by first half fouls. He barely missed when he took the passes down deep. Galler was wonderfully probing and patient on the touch.

Chris Schultz (North Greene)

No forward more thoroughly owned his space Wednesday than Chriss Schultz, owner of 17 rebounds! Schultz was Wednesday a complete statistical behemoth: 9 offensive rebounds, 6 assists, 2 blocks, 8-13 FG. North Greene advances to play Clay County first thing Thursday morning.

Cody Freshour (North Greene)

Cody is also apart of the strong Husky junior class. Though NGHS barely plays their bench, Freshour certainly impacted the game. He scored all six of his points in the third quarter. His Huskies trailed by nine points until Freshour’s first layup follow dropped through the tin ring. After his third bucket mere 3+ minutes later, North Greene was squared with the tough Richland Raiders.

Jaydin Poe (Madison Academic)

Madison Academic fell short to Clay County and Mr. Basketball candidate [player_tooltip player_id="1024931" first="Grant" last="Strong"], 57-55. For what it is worth Jaydin Poe certainly did his part for the Mustangs, scoring 13 points on limited touches. Star [player_tooltip player_id="983689" first="Walter" last="Peggs"] battled foul trouble and also shot just 6-15 from the field (with 10 rebounds). Helping offset that below average scoring night by Peggs was Poe. He needed just 7 shots to get to 13 points and truly helped Madison contend on the glass.

Keaton Arms (Clay County)

Arms is the youngest player on this list. Just a sophomore, Arms started and collected a strong seven rebounds (3 offensive). Arms needs to work to get to the free throw line more next game, where he can help even more. Like Spivey, Arms fouled, well was whistled for, four fouls. He used his body for the cause plenty.

Jeffery Spivey (Clay County)

Neither Spivey nor Arms pummeled the opponent like Schultz or Galler. What they did do was secure the win wholly earned by the elite [player_tooltip player_id="1024931" first="Grant" last="Strong"]. Spivey played 29 minutes and used 4 of his fouls. He was not much of a scoring factor Wednesday. Both Arms and Spivey made the close shots difficult.
