GHSA State Championships: Day 4 Standouts

2022 6-7 F [player_tooltip player_id="1123942" first="Jake" last="McTaggart"] – Towns County

McTaggart had a size advantage inside and he used it, going for 22 points and 12 rebounds. It was an impressive second showing. He played with physicality on the block but still was able to face-up and use his soft touch around the rim. D-II programs will want to push hard for McTaggart before D-I’s get involved. He’s a versatile inside-out forward.

2021 6-1 G [player_tooltip player_id="1130518" first="Kolby" last="Moss"] – Towns County

[player_tooltip player_id="1130518" first="Kolby" last="Moss"] fouled out but before he did, the all-time Towns County great produced 14 points and 14 rebounds. Moss knows how to get into the lane and finish in a crowd. He uses floaters and variety of layups all while seeking body contact. Moss’ motor and tenacity when rebounding gives him great value. Young Harris has offered.

2021 5-10 PG [player_tooltip player_id="1036813" first="Jamal" last="Taylor"] – Hancock Central

Peanut struggled with his shot, as did the entire Hancock Central team that was 9-40 from three. Taylor did contribute in other ways with 16 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. He’s one of the better guards still available in Georgia, flying under the radar.

2021 6-2 W [player_tooltip player_id="1043313" first="Leroy" last="Wilson"] – Hancock Central

Leroy finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He got hot in the third quarter with the three-point shot. Wilson plays bigger than his size and can slash to the hoop. He’s a quality option for smaller schools.

2021 6-0 C Marquavious Lawrence – Hancock Central

The big undersized center weighing 215 pounds kept the Bulldogs in the game as best he could. While everyone else was launching and often times missing threes, Lawrence worked his sweet spot in the zone hitting jumper after jumper from the foul line. He was 9-15 for 18 points and 7 rebounds. It was a great showing for the senior.

2023 6-2 G [player_tooltip player_id="820272" first="Kanaan" last="Carlyle"] – Milton

The blue chipper came up big in the fourth quarter and iced the game from the line going 8-10 from the stripe as Milton held Berkmar scoreless for nearly six minutes as the Eagles stormed back for a 52-47 victory. Carlyle scored a game-high 15 points and added 5 rebounds. He did a very good job on defense.

2023 6-5 PF [player_tooltip player_id="957114" first="LT" last="Overton"] – Milton

With 12 points, 9 rebounds and 3 blocks, [player_tooltip player_id="957114" first="LT" last="Overton"] was the most efficient post on the floor. He uses his burly shoulders and strength to power through shot blockers.

2021 6-5 PF Dara Olonade – Berkmar

Dara Olonade competed inside like he always does. A great motor and springy legs led him to 11 points and 10 rebounds. Life University recently offered. He’s a workhorse inside.
