<p>Fourth ranked Woodbury out-executed 6th ranked Cretin-Derham Hall last night to earn a 59-52 victory. Today in Five Things to Know we discuss how the Royals earned their 12th straight victory.</p>
<p><strong>One. Royal Ball Movement</strong>. If you like ball movement than you would of loved watching Woodbury on Monday night. The five out motion/four out motion with a player in the high post spread the Raiders think opening cutting lanes. And with the Raiders struggling to stay in defensive position [player_tooltip player_id="958684" first="Blake" last="Rohrer"], [player_tooltip player_id="774752" first="Bradley" last="Cimperman"], [player_tooltip player_id="774787" first="Mac" last="Lockner"], and others were picking the Raiders a part with money feeds to cutters at the rim. Credit here to the Woodbury staff as well. The dribble hand off - that some will say came with some weave action – into a dribble attack hitting a cutter out of the timeout will still stick. Flawless execution and called at the perfect time.</p>
<p><strong>Two</strong>. <strong>Big Game for Brad</strong>. Last night was one of the best basketball games I have seen Woodbury senior [player_tooltip player_id="774752" first="Bradley" last="Cimperman"] play. His comfort and decision making in the Royals halfcourt offense jumped off the video screen. The timing he played with sending an extra pass to the corner, cutting to the rim behind the defense, and sending a pass to cutters was excellent (six assists). Cimperman did more going to the basket than I have seen in the past resulting in five of six foul shooting, and five of his six scores being single digit foot finishes. Bradley rebounded with better position and effort than I have seen (grabbed eight) and he scored 18 points. I don’t know what Cimperman is thinking for his future but I think he could be a fabulous MIAC player that is on the floor early in his career.</p>
<p><strong>Three. Holloman Leads the Raiders</strong>. The Raiders are at times getting some good inside production from Jack Plum (had eight points making all four shots last night) and Peter Howard (averages eight points a game). From the perimeter Marselio Mendez is the second leading scorer for the season (10 a game) and Daniel Montalbano hits shot (scored nine points with six boards on 3 of 65 shooting. Add in the all around play from [player_tooltip player_id="532602" first="Jack" last="Tauer"] (4th leading scorer) and the offense has developed to help CDH win 11 of 16 games.</p>
<p>Make no mistake about it though [player_tooltip player_id="850701" first="Tre" last="Holloman"] is the main playmaker. He is the leading scorer and the top creator. Holloman had six assists opening jumpers and shots at the rim especially in half two. He took 15 field goal attempts in a slower paced game last night mixing in six shots from the perimeter with four shots from mid-range and five shots at the cup. Tre made a third of the perimeter shots (2 of 6), half the mid-range attempts (2 of 4) , and 3 of the 5 attacks. That’s seven field goals plus perfect 3 of 3 foul shooting for a team high 17 points.</p>
<p><strong>Four</strong>. <strong>The Engine</strong>. Last night every time I felt like a bad play was made, it seemed that [player_tooltip player_id="958684" first="Blake" last="Rohrer"] was a part of it. Big cut made? Rohrer was the guy finding it. Big shot that led to Royal momentum? Blake was the guy scoring it or making the defensive play leading to it. Ball going up the floor quickly? Rohrer was handling it. It every big turn of the game Blake was in the middle of the play. He seems to have a knack for the big play plus this is a better athlete than I think people know. Blake attacked open spaces for early production at the rim.</p>
<p>Also thought that [player_tooltip player_id="774930" first="Devin" last="Padelford"] hit some big shots and did about as good as one can facing [player_tooltip player_id="850701" first="Tre" last="Holloman"]. [player_tooltip player_id="774787" first="Mac" last="Lockner"] played a big second half as well scoring 11 (Devin had 13).</p>
<p><strong>Five. The Woodbury Resume</strong>. Earlier this year I looked at the second half of the Park vs Woodbury game. It was a Wolfpack 13 point win and I recall the turn and retreat to the locker room by Woodbury Head Coach Kent Getzlaff . It was a frustrated coach. Woodbury would lose three of the first four games starting with a struggle. Since then they have beat CDH twice, defeated East Ridge twice, earned some revenge beating Park, and evened the season series with Forest Lake and Mounds View up at 1-1. Mounds View was a top five team when Woodbury beat them. Now Woodbury has the best resume in 4AAAA and they are a game behind Mound View for first place in the Suburban East with two games to go each. The Woodbury win streak has them ranked 4th in Class AAAA and at this point they are the 4AAAA favorites. </p>
