6A Semifinals was definitely a tale of two games. In a competitive division, the best teams quickly stood out, while two teams were unfortunately left behind with nothing. Both of these games featured some high level talent and some really tough, hardworking teams. Here are the scores:

Forest v. Bartow, Class 6A Semifinals, 24-63 Bartow wins

Charlotte v. Mater Academy, Class 6A Semifinals, 53-59 (OT) Mater Academy wins

Here are the frontcourt standouts for the day:

[player_tooltip player_id="829385" first="Elijah" last="Russell"], Forest, 6’8", 2022

Listen, Forest did not have the game they were hoping for. Nevertheless, Elijah Russel fought through the adversity and put together a solid outing. He had 9 of Forest’s 24 points and 9 rebounds as well. He was unafraid to bang in the post with Bartow’s bigs and could extend his range out to the midrange when necessary. He fought hard for 32 minutes, no matter how far down Forest was. His commendable effort earns him a well-deserved spot on this list.

[player_tooltip player_id="818646" first="Tre" last="Carroll"], Charlotte, 6’8", 2021, FAU Commit

Carroll was a beast down low with a nice touch for the Fightin’ Tarpons. He scored almost all of his points in the paint and was hard to stop for Mater Academy. He was also a beat on the rebounds, pulling in enough to register a solid double double on the game. He was able to get some big blocks down the stretch and even hit an important 3 pointer that shifted the momentum in Charlotte’s favor towards the end of the 4th quarter. I have no doubt that [player_tooltip player_id="818646" first="Tre" last="Carroll"] will be able to succeed at the next level and will make an immediate impact for the Owls.

[player_tooltip player_id="814912" first="Jimel" last="Lane"], Mater Academy, 6’5", 2022

Lane was beasting for the Lions the entire game. He was 11 first quarter points and was able to flash all of his offensive capabilities. He hit a triple, dunked multiple times, and was effective from the mid range. He was also generating steals on defense and causing some havoc, leading to a 11:1 turnover ratio for Mater in the early game. Lane still has time to progress, which is a scary thought for the rest of the Miami area teams.

[player_tooltip player_id="1065408" first="Jaiden" last="Wynn"], Bartow, 6’5", 2022

Wynn stood out to me today for one reason: fearlessness. He was absolutely unafraid of anything the Wildcats could throw at him, and consistently attacked the interior despite being heavily outsized by Forest’s massive bigs in [player_tooltip player_id="829386" first="Brenen" last="Lorient"] and [player_tooltip player_id="829385" first="Elijah" last="Russell"]. Wynn came off the bench and added a much needed 8 points, an impressive feat for a junior. Despite being physically outmatched, Wynn was consistently trying to get buckets and even threw down an impressive tomahawk off bounce in the 2nd quarter. He was one of the highlights of a great Bartow win, and will be a factor in their state championship run on Saturday.
