Sectional play and Regional play is over and now all of the attention goes to the Semi-State matchups this weekend. Time to take a look at the pairings that make up the Class 3A Final Four of the state tournament.

Class 3A: Elkhart

The Teams: South Bend St. Joseph, Leo

Prediction: South Bend St. Joseph

Player To Watch: ‘JR’ [player_tooltip player_id="647193" first="Douglas" last="Konieczny"] (St. Joseph; 2021)

Following St. Joseph’s upset-win over No. 1 Hammond in overtime in the Regional Final, it sets up a matchup between them and Leo with a combined record of 44-8. Leo cruised in its Regional semifinal on Saturday but needed a game-saving block by [player_tooltip player_id="870240" first="D.J." last="Allen"] in the final seconds to lift them to a win in the Regional final. This is going to be a fun matchup between Konieczny and [player_tooltip player_id="874150" first="Blake" last="Davison"] and could come down to whoever scores more between those two, comes out on top. I’m going with St. Joseph in this one, however.

Class 3A: Seymour

The Teams: Silver Creek, Guerin Catholic

Prediction: Silver Creek

Player To Watch: [player_tooltip player_id="529572" first="Trey" last="Kaufman"] (Silver Creek; 2021)

The two teams come in with a combined record of 44-7 and this should be a tremendous matchup. My main concern for Catholic is the lack of bodies they will be able to throw at both [player_tooltip player_id="529572" first="Trey" last="Kaufman"] and [player_tooltip player_id="569321" first="Kooper" last="Jacobi"]. Those two should dominate the inside and get almost anything they want. Both highly skilled, it could be a long day. On the other hand, it will be a large mix of [player_tooltip player_id="1077028" first="Joseph" last="Bobilya"] and [player_tooltip player_id="1077027" first="Kaleb" last="Edwards"] in the backcourt for Catholic, averaging a combined 32 ppg. Bobilya dropped 40 points in the Regional Final, so it’s not out of the question that he can get hot, it’s just a matter of if Catholic can stay with Silver Creek for the majority of the game. I’m going with Silver Creek.
