The event featured 30 kids from across the state of Virginia, and had numerous standouts throughout the day. Here’s a look at part one of the many big time players on the day.
Jake Cooper | 5’8” PG | Green Run
Cooper stole the show early and continued to impress throughout the day, as he picked apart the defense and was just flat out unguardable throughout the day. The former VHSL Class 5 POY was big time as both a scorer and a distributor, finishing both games he played in with a double-doubles of 22 points, 11 assists and 8 rebounds and 25 points, 10 assists and 5 rebounds. He’s a guy who’s always under control, he sees the floor extremely well and he can create space and score from anywhere on the floor. He picked up an offer from Virginia State after his play.
Caleb Furr Caleb Furr 6'6" | PF Highland School | 2021 State VA | 6’6” WF | Highland School
Furr was one of the teammates that benefited from Cooper, and he was the high scorer of the day as he scored 37 points and grabbed 15 rebounds in the first game of the day. He showed he’s a scholarship level player as the 6’6” forward shot it well from deep, showed he can handle and make plays in transition, showed his athleticism with some big time finishes and he was a smooth killer throughout the day. He’s easily one of the best available shooters in the class.
Dana Woodley Dana Woodley 6'4" | SG John Marshall | 2021 State VA | 6’4” WG | John Marshall
Woodley has consistently showed at CBG events and playing in national tournaments with Blue Magic that he’s a division one prospect, and he put on a show with his athleticism and shot making ability throughout the event. The 6’4” wing is an elite athlete that plays way above the rim on both ends, he’s improved his ability to handle and create shots and he’s a guy who will burn you from deep if you leave him open. He finished both games in double figures with one 20 point game, and he made a ton of show stopping plays as well.
Jakari Wilkins Jakari Wilkins 5'9" | PG Williamsburg Christian | 2021 State VA | 5’9” PG | Williamsburg Christian
Wilkins may not be the biggest guy on the floor, but he’s a nightmare to stay in front of and is able to both score it and make plays for others. He’s a quick twitch guy who changes speeds and directions well, he can create space and make shots from multiple levels and he’s a pesky on ball defender that makes ball handlers uncomfortable and forces turnovers. He finished the event averaging 12.5 points and 4 assists per game.
Jayson Harris Jayson Harris 6'6" | PF Menchville | 2021 State VA | 6’8” PF | Menchville
It’s hard for big men to put up big numbers in a camp like this, but that didn’t stop Harris from taking advantage of his opportunities and playing with a good motor on both ends. He’s a big that scholarship programs should look for as he’s strong in the paint, moves well and runs the floor hard and he has good hands and feet and good touch out to the three-point line. He was starting to get it going before he took an elbow to the face that split him open, but he did enough in his time to show that he belongs on a full scholarship somewhere.
Trey Nelson Trey Nelson 5'10" | PG Patriot | 2021 State VA | 6’1” PG | Patriot
Nelson was a guy I had heard a lot about throughout the season as he was District Player of the Year for Patriot, and he showed why as he was on cruise control and making plays in a number of ways. The smooth lefty showed the ability to make shots from deep both off the bounce and off the catch, he got in the lane and made plays for others and showed a terrific feel on both ends of the floor. He had a big showing against Cooper in the final game, finishing with 16 points, 10 assists and 6 rebounds.
