Class 3A has been one of the most competitive classes so far. The top teams have all beaten each other and there hasn’t been a clear favorite. Let’s take a look at the past weekend, plus a preview for the state qualifying slate next weekend.

Notable Games:

#7 Adair beat #20 Valliant 50-39

#6 Beggs beat #15 Roland 61-31

#2 Hugo beat #16 Keys 55-41

#4 Community Christian beat #11 Kingston 67-44

#14 Metro Christian beat #8 Star Spencer 57-41

Upsets:

Marlow beat #5 Christian Heritage 43-30

#10 Eufaula beat #3 Millwood 52-32

Analysis:

Nobody expected CHA and Millwood to lose this weekend. Both of those teams will now have to rally to make the state tournament. Hugo stays unblemished on their quest for perfection as they are now one game away. #1 Crossings Christian stayed undefeated in the postseason after a win against Alva on Saturday night. Metro Christian proved they are a dangerous team with their upset win Saturday night. Their big victory sets up nicely for a Crossings Christian-Metro rematch. Community Christian used their dominant, big style of play to roll through the weekend while Beggs dominated their competition as well.

Prospects Facing Elimination Games:

[player_tooltip player_id="1015791" first="Luke" last="Winslow"] CHA

Winslow is a tall point guard that has gotten the job done all season. He is a sniper from deep and physical when he drives. When he gets going, there’s no stopping him.

[player_tooltip player_id="967381" first="Rickey" last="Hunt"] Millwood

Hunt had a slow start to the season but it looked like Millwood was back on track. Hunt is a strong guard that bullies his way into the lane. He also uses his body and strength defensively as he’s a nightmare matchup for other point guards.

[player_tooltip player_id="937986" first="Jackson" last="Lawley"] Tishomingo

Tishomingo has been one of the surprise stories of the year, thanks in part to Lawley. He’s one of the smoothest players in the state and has a jump shot that is tough to block. He also finds ways to score around the rim, seemingly gliding at times.
