Week 12 Top Scorers & Analysis

<p>High school basketball in Southeast Alabama is nearing area tournament play. As the season winds down, many teams are in contention for making the postseason heading into the final week of regular season basketball. There are a multitude of talented players in the Wiregrass region of the state, and this past week showcased a few of those players. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="725189" first="Devontae" last="White"]</strong> (2022) | 6-3 PG, SG | Wicksburg HS</p> <p>White is a terrific ball handler with impressive skills. He can drive to the lane and score inside but can also hit the mid-range jumper or an outside three-pointer. In two games last week, the junior guard scored a combined 44 points. On Thursday against Daleville, White scored 23 points and went 11-of-12 at the free throw line. When Wicksburg needed clutch points, White was drawing fouls and earning points at the line. From a defensive standpoint, White is a top notch defender who gets pressure on the opposing ball handler. He has the ability to reach and get a steal or help force a turnover in a half-court press. </p> <p><strong>Dalton Taggart</strong> (2022) | 6-2 PG, SG | Wicksburg HS</p> <p>Taggart has excellent shooting skills, especially on the perimeter. In two games last week, the junior scored a total of 32 points, going 7-of-18 from the three-point line. Most of Taggart’s scoring comes from beyond the arc. However, he also scores in the paint. The 6’2" guard scored six points in the paint last week. Against Daleville, Taggart started the game a perfect 3-of-3 from beyond the arc. Defensively, Taggart has great footwork and can stay stride for stride with any opposing ball handler to the basket. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="725163" first="Emmanuel" last="Henderson"]</strong> (2022) | G | 5-9 | Geneva County HS</p> <p>Henderson is a dominant force on offense. Last week, the 5’9" junior guard scored 30 points in a game against Wicksburg. His offensive skill set gives him the ability to drive inside the lane and score an open basket. But Henderson can also knock down an open three-point attempt. Despite his small size, the junior can also elevate above the rim and dunk when in transition. On defense, he is a top notch defender that can force any ball handler into a turnover or an unwanted shot selection.  </p> <p><strong>Colby Fuller</strong> (2021) | F | 6-6 | Geneva County HS</p> <p>Fuller is a dynamic big man that can haul in rebounds at both ends of the floor. At 6’6", the senior had a height advantage in Geneva County’s game against Wicksburg. His ability to score anywhere on the court gives his team a momentum boost in clutch moments. Fuller scored 18 points on 4-of-7 shooting. The majority of his points came at the free throw line and beyond the arc. For free throws, Fuller went 7-of-9 at the line. On the perimeter, he went 3-of-4 for three-point shots. On defense, Fuller is a big bodied defender that rarely lets a shot get above him near the basket. </p> <p><strong>Jordan McDonald</strong> (2021) | G | 5-9 | Daleville HS</p> <p>McDonald is an excellent shooter from anywhere on the court. When Daleville needs a quick basket, the senior is able to take the game into his own hands. For his size, McDonald is great at driving inside and fighting for a basket. But behind the three-point line is where the senior guard really shows his powerful shooting skills. Last Thursday against Wicksburg, McDonald shot 4-of-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 12 points from the three-point line. He can also knock down needed free throws, as he shot a perfect 4-of-4 at the line. His defensive game is also strong. All game against Wicksburg, McDonald was getting pressure on any player that had the ball and forced a few turnovers. </p> <p><strong>Bryan Beckwith</strong> (2022) | F | 6-4 | Daleville HS</p> <p>The 6’4" Beckwith has great court vision and a powerful basketball skill set. He scored 14 points from the floor on 6-of-16 shooting. At the free throw line, the junior added two more points on 2-of-3 shooting on foul shot attempts. On the defensive end, Beckwith can easily go up and get rebounds and block shots. His tall frame gives him an advantage over teams that have shorter players. The junior is dominant from beyond the arc and can hit the spot up three point attempt with ease. </p> <p>&nbsp;</p>
