The pandemic has put a halt on all sports in New Mexico. There are also many top players who have also been put on a halt because of the pandemic. The state is talking about sports coming back...Let’s hope so. For our seniors class of 2021 this is the last year for them to have an opportunity for a scholarship. Here is a list of the top 5 unsigned seniors.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076622" first="Evan" last="Gonzales"] 6’0’’ G (Cleveland High School) Evan has definitely gained some size and packed on a lot of muscle since last year. He has attended many showcases and played in some high level tournaments the last 4 months. The muscle has definitely helped with defense and the strength factor. If I was to break him down I would say that Evan is probably the most dynamic point guards in his class. He is an excellent floor general who can read the floor well. He is aggressive to get to the rim and is a strong finisher. He is also a solid shooter. Evan has interest from many schools and it’s only a matter of time before one offers.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076623" first="Nathan" last="Hasberry"] 6’3" SF (Cleveland High School) featured: [player_tooltip player_id="1076623" first="Nathan" last="Hasberry"] or as I like to call him Mr. And 1. This kid gets more and 1’s than any high school player I have seen in New Mexico. Nathan is the player you want to have the ball when you are down in a game. He will figure out a way to get to the bucket and get fouled. It’s crazy no schools have offered him yet. He is a killer when he has the ball in his hands. He can stroke from the outside, is bouncy and plays hellacious defense.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076627" first="Cruz" last="Martinez"] 5’10" G (Santa Fe) Cruz is deadly when he has the ball in his hands. He can hit you with a step back or blow past you to get a layup. He has a very high motor and plays both sides of the floor with high intensity. His defense is very good he knows how to stay in front of his defender and has very quick hands. Cruz has put a lot of work in his game the last 4-5 months and it definitely shows. He had some very strong showings at some Elite showcases and continues to get invited to more. If New Mexico has a season Cruz will be a major player to watch as he will break out and have multiple high scoring games.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076640" first="Aaron" last="Canizales"] 6’1" G (Cleveland High School) Another player who has been very active playing in multiple showcases and events. Aaron has put the work in to get stronger and improve his shooting. He plays with hard intensity on offense and defense. He has solid ball handling skills, a nice mid range game and can hit the long ball 3. He had a great showing in the Made Hoops event in Phoenix, AZ.

[player_tooltip player_id="1076625" first="Derek" last="Chavez"] 5’11" G (Valley High School) A big time sniper who will make you pay if you give him any space whatsoever. I’m telling you I have watched Derek drain eight 3’s in a game. The kid could flat out shoot the rock. I am floored that he hasn’t received 1 offer from any schools. He has a lot of interest from multiple schools but nobody has pulled the trigger yet. Look for Derek to go ballistic this season.
