Expert Analysis
Keith Ford | Prep Hoops Scout
Gabe Trujillo has been one of the more steady and productive guards to watch this AAU season, and his recent recruiting momentum reflects that. After picking up an offer from McPherson College, more schools have started to get involved as they see the consistency he’s bringing every weekend.
Trujillo has done a great job of leading his team and playing with confidence in big moments. He’s a guard that can hurt defenses in multiple ways because of his ability to score from all three levels while also creating opportunities for others. Whether it’s knocking down perimeter shots, getting into the midrange, or finishing at the rim, he continues to show versatility as a scorer. What makes him even more valuable is his ability to facilitate and keep his team organized while still being aggressive offensively.
This past weekend in Kansas City was another strong showing for Trujillo, especially in his team’s biggest matchup against Chapman North where he finished with 18 points and made several momentum-shifting plays. He continues to prove that he can produce against quality competition, and with more college coaches taking notice, his recruitment feels like it’s just getting started.

Gabe put together a complete game in his team’s win over The Academy Phoenix. He scored 25 points and stayed poised from start to finish, hitting big-time shots in key moments. Trujillo did an excellent job getting downhill and finishing at the rim while also taking care of the ball and creating advantages for others. He also had one of his better defensive games of the season, reading passes, jumping lanes, and turning steals into easy transition points. His leadership and consistency stood out just as much as the scoring.

produced the moment of the event with a wild game winner against Highlands. Down by one with 3.2 seconds left, he grabbed his own missed free throw, attacked the right side of the rim, and floated it high off the glass as the buzzer sounded. He was also strong throughout the day scoring the ball and creating easy looks for his teammates. His poise late sealed the win, but his consistency all game long is what stood out most.

Gabe proved to everybody in the gym why he is considered the best combo guard in the state of New Mexico. He started off each game by making sure his teammates were getting in rhythm and staying involved. He seemed to always know the right time to take over the ball game. Trujillo scored from all three levels and nobody was able to slow him down.
