So it’s -33 where you live? That’s okay, you can still watch basketball online or go to the gym (you only have to be outside for a minute!). Here are the top games of the weekend.

Appetizer. Looking to watch two games tonight? Your best chance to see two is to watch either DeLaSalle at Saint Anthony or Richfield at Fridley, and then catch a 7:30 game when those two 6pm starts are completed. DeLaSalle and Richfield are both top 5 teams in Class AAA basketball while Saint Anthony and Fridley are three-win clubs a game under .500. Richfield is led by [player_tooltip player_id="774836" first="Lamar" last="Grayson"], a 23 point per game scorer that is making some noise as a potential Top Ten list Mr. Basketball candidate player. Sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="962218" first="Nasir" last="Whitlock"] leads the Islanders with his 15.1 points per game.

Specials. Mankato West vs Mankato East. For a long time this game was so must see they played it in the Taylor Center to accommodate all the interest. East has won the last seven straight games so the rivalry has been more one sided as of late. Both teams come into tonight’s game at 7-1 with talented rosters ready to go at it. The Scarlets have the more experienced group, the Cougars are the team more used to winning. Here are the likely match-ups for tonight’s clash:

Puolrah Gong (Jr 6’7 Power Forward of ME) vs [player_tooltip player_id="958360" first="Mekhi" last="Collins"] (Jr 6’5 Forward of MW)

[player_tooltip player_id="850715" first="BJ" last="Omot"] (Jr 6’7 Guard of ME) vs [player_tooltip player_id="958702" first="Buom" last="Jock"] (Jr 6’5 Wing of MW)

Tj Kueth (Jr 6’2 Guard of ME) vs [player_tooltip player_id="796953" first="Brady" last="Haugum"] (Jr 6’0 PG of MW)

Jalen Hayes (Soph 6’2 Small Forward of ME) vs Louis Magers (Jr 6’3 Forward of MW)

Sean Clement (Jr 6’0 Guard of ME) vs [player_tooltip player_id="774798" first="Mason" last="Ellwein"] (Jr 6’0 PG of MW)

Main Course. Byron vs Stewartville. [player_tooltip player_id="891901" first="Ahjany" last="Lee"] vs [player_tooltip player_id="567035" first="Will" last="Tschetter"]. There is a lot to see in this game. Jake Braaten versus [player_tooltip player_id="956149" first="Nolan" last="Stier"] will be fun in the backcourt. Both teams are ranked. Byron has the deeper, more experienced team so they are the favorite coming in. But if were are being honest with ourselves people will want to come into this game to see Nationally ranked posts [player_tooltip player_id="567035" first="Will" last="Tschetter"] and [player_tooltip player_id="891901" first="Ahjany" last="Lee"] go at it. Stewartville will rely on Tschetter for more and he is the more skilled of the players, but Lee is getting more skilled by the second. Ahjany is also the taller, the longer, and the more agile of the two prospects as well. Should be fun.

Dessert. The late night Saturday game to see is Lake City (4-1) vs La Crescent (6-2). Both teams should be celebrated for where they are right now. Lake City looked.... I guess I will say terrible when I watched them against Byron. But they’ve won their other four games including a nice win over Goodhue. Junior [player_tooltip player_id="796956" first="Justin" last="Wohlers"] is one of the better shooters in southern Minnesota and he’s scoring nearly 20 a game. As as La Crescent, this was expected to be a bit of a bumpy season considering all the players they lost to graduation. But through eight games the Lancers are a balanced team with a freshman, Parker McQuin, stepping up big with a dozen a game.
