Prep Hoops Michigan recently updated it’s prospect rankings for the senior class. It’s tempting to look at the top, but due to the depth of talent here in Michigan, there are star players deep into the list. We will look at some star post players outside the top 100 in the class of 2022.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068135" first="Nick" last="Ellis"] (PF, Grand Ledge)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #109

Ellis was incredibly impressive during showcases this fall, particularly Let’s Get Ready. He worked screen and rolls to perfection. Ellis set a solid screen and rolled to the rim ready to receive the pass. He’s a player that coaches need to keep an eye on.

[player_tooltip player_id="983519" first="Michael" last="Calhoun"] (PF, Riverview Gabriel Richard)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #119

Calhoun is the type of post player that I could see averaging a double-double someday. He’s a physically strong player and very coachable. Calhoun is the type of player that isn’t worried about doing the dirty work.

[player_tooltip player_id="983525" first="Mathew" last="Coffey"] (PF, Mt. Clemens)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #121

With the loss of superstar [player_tooltip player_id="787651" first="JaVaughn" last="Hannah"] to Ypsi Prep, comes opportunities for other players to step up. This could be the case for Coffey. He’s always had a big upside as a prospect and, in my opinion, we’ll see a lot of that come to fruition this season.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068154" first="Reem" last="Rashed"] (PF, Detroit Country Day)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #129

Rashed is a post player that knows how to butter his bread. It all starts on the defensive end for him and the rest of his game follows the lead. Rashed takes pride in his post defense and looks forward to guarding big threats in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="863998" first="Ben" last="Spahn"] (PF, Divine Child)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #130

Spahn may not be the tallest post player on the list, but he will be ready to do battle. Spahn plays best with contact and always looks to box out on the shot. He’s strong enough to move bigger opponents in the paint.

[player_tooltip player_id="1068150" first="Omari" last="Byrd"] (C, Arbor Prep)

Prep Hoops Michigan Raking: #156

Byrd shouldn’t be overlooked as a player and prospect. He has good footwork in the paint and is pretty quick with his help defense. Byrd will be a valuable cog down low for a skilled Arbor Prep squad.
