Jake Lemelman Jake Lemelman 6'3" | CG MacDuffie | 2024 State New E
Newton south G January 5 vs Concord. 20 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals
In Jakes first game on varsity as a freshman he showed no fear. He proved he is a name to watch in the high school scene. Jake who is a known 3 point shooter, started his career out with a hot hand from three. Jake had 5 threes in the south win. Concord make the mistake of playing a zone vs Jake, and Jake made them pay. Concord was switching it up with a 2-3 zone and a 1-3-1 zone. Jake did a great job of spotting up in the corner against the zone, and with his quick shot release, when concord didn’t trap the corners fast enough Jake was able to spot up and make shots. He proved to be more than just a shooter. He was able to beat defenders off the dribble on slow closeouts, and with good ball fakes. Jake also got after it on defense, with good on ball pressure, and getting 3 steals. He did a good job on defense defending the screens. Mental toughness is an intangible I think is very undervalued, especially for young high school athletes. In other games this season where Jake isn’t shooting as well, he has done a good job of still finding was to impact the game.
Ryan Mela
natick. January 28th vs Newton North. 30 points,15 rebounds, 2 blocks.
In the Big win was North, Ryan proved his dominance. Ryan was force on both ends of the floor. Ryan showed his versatility in the game. He scored in a number of ways, Drawing fouls, 3 pointers, and second chance points. Ryan is really strong and finished well in traffic. When Ryan was double teamed he did a good job of finding the open teammate. Ryan showed how much he can do in this game. Ryan has the ability to take over games and he showed it. Ryan is a very talented player.
Itai Alinsky
Newton South, January 26 vs Lincoln Sudbury. 24 points, 12 rebounds 4 steals, 2 blocks.
Itai had a huge game in South’s win. Lincoln Sudbury tried to full court press for a lot of the second half, and when south was able to break the press, at times it became a layup fest for itai. When south got the ball past the trap itai got wide open layups. Itai showed his soft touch inside as well, with a nice soft hook shot on one play. Itai was great running the floor on the press, and also getting the ball in the middle of the press and making outlet passes. When Ls played a 2-3 zone itai did a good job playing free throw line extended for south’s zone offense, and had one play where scored on a flash to the basket. Itai also scored on second chance points. On defense itai did a good job fronting in the post denying the entry pass, and also showed his on ball defense, when he had a nice steal leading to a layup.
Florian Kuechen
Newton north. January 21st vs Wellesley. 19 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks.
In this game florian made a big impact on both ends of the floor. Florian is a stretch big who can shoot or score in the post. He is such a tough guard because he can be threat from all areas on the floor. Florian has been improving all season, and this game was really showed it. On defense florian played great help side defense, and showed his shot blocking ability. On offense he proved he is threat, and has a smooth touch from the inside. Florian has improved his skills and his athleticism. His stock is really rising with gams like this.
Marat Belhouchet
Newton north. January 29th vs Natick 15 points 7 rebounds 3 assists, 2 steals
Marat had his breakout varsity game in north’s win. Marat made key baskets down the stretch. Mart showed his range with his three point shooting and his touch with nice floaters in the lane. With starters out marat stepped up big. He is a great catch and shooter but can also shoot off the dribble. He not only impacted the game with scoring but also showed good passing and court vision. Marat is a guard but still did well on the boards with 7 rebounds. Look for more breakout games for marat in the future. Marat and his brother Karim continue to be a great backcourt for the tigers.
