Wih that said, there were some new additions to the rankings which were released earlier this month. In this article, I will review some of the new additions and what makes them worthy adds to the class of 2022 rankings.
#18 | Sedric Applewhite Sedric Applewhite 6'6" | SF Bossier | 2022 State LA | 6’6″ F | Bossier
Applewhite moved from Florida, enrolled in Bossier, and immediately filled a need for the Bearkats. He is a very able rebounder who is quick off the floor with his first and second jump. That leaping ability helps Applewhite score without plays being run for him. He also makes efficient offensive plays with his passing from the high post. Applewhite has only begun to scratch the surface with his talent.
#19 | Jordan DeCuir Jordan DeCuir 6'3" | CG Zachary | 2022 State LA | 6’2″ G | Zachary
Decuir is one of the more explosive combo guards in class 5A. The Broncos excel in the open floor and Decuir is one of the reasons why. He has the speed to change ends quickly along with his ability to finish at (or above) the rim. Decuir has a somewhat deliberate release from three but is capable of making them when left open. The Broncos are a danger to the 5A crown and Decuir is one of the main reasons.
#40 | Aidan Bevrotte Aidan Bevrotte 6'8" | SF Sandy Creek | 2022 State GA | 6’7″ F | McMain
McMain has an abundance of talent and Bevrotte is apart of that talented group. Bevrotte can shoot the ball well from 17 feet in and will occasionally knock down a three. His best work happens in the paint. He can pass in high-low sets, finish with either hand at the rim, and he is an active rebounder. Bevrotte has a versatile skill set and a frame that may help him dominate going forward in his prep career.
#43 | Zach Fenn Zach Fenn 6'2" | CG St. Paul | 2022 State LA | 6’2″ G | St. Paul
Fenn is a multi-talented guard who can pretty much do it all on the hardwood for St. Paul. He is a player who can rebound and push, break a defender down with the dribble, or penetrate and kick. Fenn is a one stop shop who can hurt a team in a myriad of ways. For St. Paul to have postseason success, Fenn will have to be at the top of his game. He is a definite difference maker on the floor.
#45 | Braiden Wagner Braiden Wagner 6'3" | CG Peabody Magnet | 2022 State LA | 6’2″ G | Peabody
Before their untimely removal from the playoffs, Wagner was a player I was looking forward to seeing. He is a guard who follows in the vain of Kyron Gibson. Wagner is a hard-nosed defender who can also has an offensive game. He can stick it to the defense from three or he can pull up from inside the arc. When next year comes, look for Wagner to be next in line as Peabody’s top guard.
#50 | Calvin Collins Calvin Collins 6'4" | SF BTW (Shreveport) | 2022 State LA | 6’4″ F | BTW-Shreveport
The Lions are a team who does not have anyone taller than 6’4″. However, that 6’4″ player is Calvin Collins Calvin Collins 6'4" | SF BTW (Shreveport) | 2022 State LA and he is one of the more active players in class 4A. Collins is a ball of live energy when he is on the floor. He rebounds the ball in traffic or he will tip it until he can catch it. His baseline jumper is almost automatic. Collins hurts teams in more ways than one and he is hard to stop on any possession.
#52 | Joe Bob Wiltz Joe Bob Wiltz 6'6" | PF Cecilia | 2022 State LA | 6’5″ F | Cecilia
Wiltz may play Robin to Avontez Ledet Avontez Ledet 6'3" | CG Cecilia | 2021 State LA ’s Batman most of the time. However, Robin is pretty good when he gets it going himself. Wiltz is an active body who is very good at scoring around the rim. He can also protect the rim and is good at rebounding in traffic. His game will take another step when he can consistently hit mid-range or elbow jumpers. When that happens, he will be very hard to contain.
#54 | Tony Percy Tony Percy 5'9" | PG Rayville | 2022 State LA | 5’9″ G | Rayville
Percy is probably the best scorer under six feet. I am not just talking about in class 2A but in the state. He can shoot it anywhere behind the arc and has nice form. When he penetrates he finishes at various angles or with different types of shots. Percy can also get to the foul line and hurt a team from there. He is a threat from all three levels and helps make the Hornets one of the favorites in their class.
#55 | Nick Bailey Nick Bailey 6'5" | SF Mansfield | 2023 State LA | 6’5″ W | Mansfield
Bailey is a wing that has the potential to be a top 20 player with the Wolverines. He can do score at all three levels and is long and athletic. What is just as impressive about him is that he will do that dirty work as well. In north Louisiana, anyone that is 6’4″ or taller has to defend the post. Not only will he do that, he will set tough screens as well. He is an all around player who has a ton of potential.
#77 | Kyron Williams Kyron Williams 5'10" | PG Bastrop | 2022 State LA | 5’9″ G | Bastrop
The Ram point guard is a great defender who also knows how to score. He does not force things and really lets the game come to him. While he is a good offensive player, defense seems to be where he makes the most impact. Williams is good at reading passes and deflecting them. He is also good in the open floor and finishing after those steals. Williams is a good player for the Rams and is only getting better.
