Ryan Monahan | 6’5″ | Big with wing potential | Hamilton-Wenham | 2021
As the Cape Ann League Player of the Year in the Baker Division, Ryan Monahan provides both intensity and physicality on both ends of the floor. Averaging a double-double this season, Monahan has had some monster performances on the glass. Against Ipswich, he grabbed 26 points and 20 rebounds in a decisive victory for the Generals. Named the Northshore’s Best Rebounder by Salem News, Monahan snatched 15 rebounds to help secure the Baker Title against Lynnfield, as he could fit in any system at the next level. He does a great job of occupying space in the main and can stay with quicker guards on the drive. Besides his raw production on the boards, Monahan has a high feel for the game and makes excellent help-side rotations.
Ray Cuevas | 5’11” | Combo guard (Shooter) | Ipswich High School | 2023
All shooting all the time as one of the best three-point marksmen in the CAL Cuevas isn’t just a spot-up shooter. Named as an All-CAL selection, Cuevas can convert on tough movement triples and understands how to create space off the ball, mainly when coming off down screens. With shooting pure mechanics, Cuevas has shown the ability to get his shot off with limited space. Having cashed in on 22 triples during the regular season, he was named the Best Outside Shooter by Salem News, an honor that includes more than just the CAL but rather the larger Cape Ann Area. Cuevas can finish at the rim and run the offense when called upon. He finished the season averaging 14.5 points per game for the Tigers, on efficient shooting from beyond the arc.
Jack Shaw | 6’3″ | Big with wing potential | Manchester-Essex | 2021
A double-double machine, Shaw finished the regular season 5th on the North Shore in scoring, averaging 17.3 points per game. As the only team to beat top-ranked Hamilton-Wenham, Shaw provides a needed impact for number two ranked Manchester-Essex. An all-around player who impacts winning, Shaw runs the floor with intent, has a great second bounce on the boards, plays hard at all times, and spaces it from beyond the arc. In transition, Shaw knows how to fill lanes. On defense, he understands help concepts and stays on the balls of his feet. A leader and engaged captain, Shaw brings much more to the table than just scoring and rebounding. More of a wing at the next level, Shaw’s versatility may even enable him to play at the two-guard spot.
Carter Coffey | 6’4″ | Wing with ball-handling capabilities | Hamilton-Wenham | 2021
Another General selected to the All-Cal team, Coffey finished the season averaging around 14 points per game, helping lead Hamilton-Wenham to a top spot seed in the Baker Division. More than just an impact scorer, he seems to always be in the right place at the right time. With wing size, he can also handle the ball and initiate the offense during half-court sets. Coffey can catch high and release high on his jump shot as he’s shown the ability to knock down pivotal shots from beyond the arc. Coffey plays within himself but is also a stat-sheet stuffer, rarely forces the offense, and has a high-level understanding of perimeter spacing.
Jack Lucido | 6’2″ | Off-ball guard | Georgetown | 2022
Quick trigger shot, Lucido does a great job of spotting up in the right places, especially in corners, getting his feet set, and firing on all cylinders from beyond the arc. A pure shooter, Lucido can hit shots from way beyond the three-point line as he is always ready to shoot at all times. Capable of hitting 7-three-pointers on more than just one occasion, Lucido understands when to move without the ball. He sets himself up for high-quality relocation looks and can handle the ball when asked. While Georgetown had their season cut short due to COVID-19 related circumstances, Lucido was a selection for this year’s CAL, All-Star team.
