Best Team:
St. Marys gets the nod because they were recently ranked 5th in 3A, slightly ahead of Rock Creek in 9th place. St. Marys won the lone head-to-head so far this season.
Stars:
Dawson Zenger Dawson Zenger 6'1" | CG Rock Creek | 2021 State KS , senior, Rock Creek:
There are a lot of good players in the league, but at this point, Zenger stands head and shoulders above the rest. His resume is too long to recount here. He was first-team 3A last year, and he’s breaking scoring records left and right.
Risers:
Trey Harmison, junior, Riley County:
Harmison is stepping into the lead role for the Falcons this year. He gets the ball to his teammates and can score as well. After averaging 9 points and 4 assists as a sophomore, Harmison is developing into one of the best guards in the league. He has games of 21, 17 and 14 recently.
Dawson Wyre, senior, Silver Lake:
You might not consider a senior a ‘riser,’ but Wyre is taking his game to another level in his final year. He averaged just 5 points as a junior, but has six games in double figures already this season. The 6-foot-4 forward is tough in the lane and occasionally drops in an outside shot.
Keller Hurla, sophomore, St. Marys:
The latest Hurla to arrive on the scene is making a name quickly. He is a threat from deep, is an athletic guard who can handle the ball and make plays all over the court. His season was highlighted by a 22-point effort against Mission Valley.
Unsung Heroes:
Avery Holle, senior, and Conner Holle, senior, Riley County:
The Holles have been hooking up on the football field and making connections on the basketball court for years. The 6-foot-1 twins are making the Falcons a tough opponent this season. They both can score, rebound and play defense.
Brooks Whaley, senior, Rock Creek:
The football-tough senior is an athletic complement to Zenger. He is gritty on the defensive end, quick and mature. He is good for about 8 points every night out, while contributing on the boards and in the passing game.
Isiah Holz, senior, St. Marys:
The 6-foot-2 guard is big and athletic enough to pose problems for opponents. He is a good rebounder from the guard spot, and consistently provides a scoring threat. He has four games in double figures for the well-rounded and deep Bears.
