Malevy Leons (Mineral Area – Sophomore)
We came away super impressed in our first look at this big man. Leons is a stretch four that has a feathery touch from distance as he hit multiple including one to end the half. Very mobile on the offensive end receiving a give and go pass for a dunk. Put it on the deck for an and-1 from the high-post. Defensively he clears the glass with his quickness and length. Major shot blocking presence defensively. Bouncy four man should be on the low-major radar without question. He had 19 points.
Terrion Murdix (Mineral Area – Sophomore)
This Springfield Southeast point guard we got an extensive look at during his high school career. He is a speedy guard that pushes in the open floor and always has his head up looking to make a play. Feel for the game and plays with flair. Active defender with his hands and lateral quickness. Went for 15 points.
Kevin Stone (Mineral Area – Sophomore)
Stone goes about his business and gets the job done. Crafty takes, gets to the line, and solid defense are the name of his game. Always seems to be around the ball and in the right spot to make a play. He had 11 points.
Jamir Price (Mineral Area – Freshman)
Price is a prospect we always enjoyed covering in high school at Rock Island. Two guard that is athletic and at his best when using his acrobatics getting downhill getting to the rim for points. Did just that in this one scoring 13 points.
Romon Douglas-Watkins (John A Logan – Sophomore)
RDW stands at 6’6” and the small forward was the top scorer for the Vols on Saturday night. Hit a trio from distance. He does have a slight hitch at the top, but it went down. Really liked how well he rebounded in and out of his area for a wing. Long strides on straight line takes to the cup. Finished with 24 points.
Cam Alford (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Alford was the lone bright spot in the first half for Logan. The powerfully built 6’1” shooting guard is at his best when he plays bully ball getting downhill for scores at the rim or making trips to the charity stripe. Good ball handler, but is more comfortable as a scorer playing at the two. He had 13 on the night.
Mario McKinney (John A Logan – Sophomore)
McKinney didn’t quite live up to the billing of his recent 52 point performance, but he still managed to record 15 in the loss. The former Vashon guard is a lefty scoring guard that does most of his damage in the lane. Excellent body control at the hoop finishing through and around defenders. Needs to become more consistent with the deep ball.
Jamarion Sharp (John A Logan – Sophomore)
The 7’3” Western Kentucky commit got in foul trouble early and never got it all the way going. He is a long and super thin five that excels at swatting shots which he did early in the 2nd half as he had four blocks in the first five minutes of the half. Offensively he is still pretty raw, but is definitely a legit lob threat as he threw down several impressive slams.
Brandon Muntu (Vincennes – Freshman)
Muntu was the spark that lit the flame for Vincennes in their home comeback win. This 6’4” freshman from Canada is a left scoring guard that is effective getting buckets from all three levels. Sound shooter knocking down four triples along with two pull ups from mid-range. Knows how to set up his shot and create space to get it off. Can put it on the deck as well with slick handles. Has the makings of the next big time guard out of Vincennes. Went for 22 points.
Justin Archer (Vincennes – Freshman)
Archer is an angular 6’7” power forward that was extremely efficient with his touches. Every time the ball touched his hands it was a quick move to the hoop for a score. Sound footwork and position on the offensive end. Very good free throw shooter with soft touch on his shot which should translate into a mid-range game in time. He had 17 points.
Christian Wells (Vincennes – Sophomore)
Wells was one of my favorite JUCO freshman I saw last year and he is back again. The 6’5” power forward is a big chested post that is uber skilled. Elite passing instincts out of the big man finding cutters and shooters. Works well out of the high post shooting, passing in the high/low, and putting it on the deck. Long arms and has a knack for grabbing contested rebounds. Went for 15 points.
John Ukomadu (Vincennes – Sophomore)
This 6’6” power forward didn’t do much on the offensive end, but he popped defensively with the way he protected the rim swatting an array of shots and displaying excellent lateral mobility on that end.
Chris Roberts (Kankakee – Sophomore)
This 6’0” point guard lit up Chicago during his career with his blazing speed and that was certainly on display early and often against Vincennes. The former Morgan Park point guard has elite speed in the open floor blowing right by defenders. He got the rim with his burst along with hitting an array of tough step back jumpers from inside the arc. He had 19 points definitely putting a game tape together that will impress D1 coaches.
Chaz Hinds (Kankakee – Sophomore)
Hinds is a 6’8” post that is your classic junk yard dog. He cleans up everything around the hoop on the offensive glass. Also has really nice footwork and combination moves on the block to get points. He had 15 points on the evening.
Darion Binion (Kankakee – Sophomore)
When Roberts went out with foul trouble in the first half it was Binion who continued the assault early on for Kankakee. Athletic scoring guard that loves to go to the hoop on straight line takes. He had 9 points.
Damari Nixon (Kanakee – Sophomore)
Long and angular lefty 6’3” combo guard knocked in several jumpers from 12 feet and then stretched it to three for a pull up shot. Can defend multiple positions. Went for 9 points.
A’Kieon Gill (Kankakee – Sophomore)
Good sized two guard at 6’3” with the ability to knock down shots which he did in this one connecting on several from distance along with utilizing his quickness inside for second chance points. Finished with 11 points.
