This year is a very unique season where we haven’t been able to see the best incoming freshman during a high school season to date. We have however got insight into many of the top 2024 prospects through camps and scrimmages during the fall and winter. In this series we dive into a look at the top incoming freshman on our radar at this point.
We spoke with Illinois Wolves program director Mike Mullins to discuss his standout 2024 post Jaheem Webber. We were impressed with what we saw out of him during their fall workouts. Below is our report from that day.
Webber has a chance to be one of the top big men in this class. Already standing at 6’8” he has great size and a strong frame. Terrific area rebounder that out rebounded players a year older than him. He is pretty light on his feet for his size. Scored on several layups including a reverse one and a give/go pass. Also had a finish with his off hand on a dump off pass. Works well in the pick and roll. Shot blocking presence on the defensive end.
Today we talk with Coach Mullins about the Normal Community post in Intro 2024: Jaheem Webber!
What is his current height and weight?
6’9” 230
Long term what is an area that you believe can be developed in his game that might not be as evident right now?
Believe Jaheem is just scratching the surface as the best big man prospect in the state.
What are the biggest traits he will bring to your program over the next several years?
Jaheem will make his teammates better by his examples of competitiveness, unselfishness, and winning mentality.
Is there a recent Illinois Wolves players that he reminds you of at a young age?
We have been blessed with terrific bigs over the years and guys like Jay Simpson, Nnanna Egwu, Frank Kaminsky, Barret Benson all are different but all have some similarities to share some of their best qualities that Jaheem brings to our program
Has there been any early college recruitment with him yet?
Not having a high school season or travel season in Illinois has limited opportunities for class of 2024 but as time moves forward Jaheem will be one of the top players on college coaches lists as a premier player in our state and the entire region. Once our players accomplish that history shows they ascend nationally as well . Jaheem has that in him!
