It was a Sunday matinee between DePaul Prep and Montini. PHI took in the contest which DePaul Prep would win 60-39. Here is our look at the game in 5 Takeaways: DePaul Prep vs Montini!

[player_tooltip player_id="920949" first="Brian" last="Mathews"] Double Double

UMass commit [player_tooltip player_id="920949" first="Brian" last="Mathews"] had one of his strongest games of his senior campaign. The true five man is a throw back as he anchors down low and does the majority of his damage in the paint. It all starts with his physicality and rebounding. He is one of the top rebounders in the senior class as he goes after them aggressively in traffic consistently winning 50/50 balls. Garners deep post position where he punishes defenders for scores. Good hands in the paint finishing dump off passes. Runs the floor well for his size. Went for 13 points and 11 rebounds.

TY Johnson is Going to be Star in MVC

You love to see players pick the right level that they will succeed at. In a normal year without the pandemic and transfer market that is about to take place DePaul Prep point guard TY Johnson would have probably had high-major options. He is signed with Loyola where he will be able to be an impactful four year player and contribute next year as a freshman. Athletic guard lives in the lane winning off the bounce with consistency. He has greatly improved his passing feel, particularly in the half court making others better. Excels in the open floor getting out for transition dunks and overall using his athleticism. Active defender that ignites them on that end at times and hit a crisp mid-range jumper to close the half. He had 18 points.

DePaul Prep Guard Depth Continues to Produce

The three other guards for DePaul Prep play their part each and every game. [player_tooltip player_id="1049577" first="Rasheed" last="Bello"] is a spark plug who is a tenacious defender and gets out in the open floor with his speed. Went for 6 points. [player_tooltip player_id="1049597" first="Cameron" last="Lewis"] played well in this one hitting a couple threes on his way to 14 points. [player_tooltip player_id="1049606" first="Jabari" last="Sawyer"] is a great glue guy for this team who does a little bit of everything as he had 7 points.

Harris and Stokes Most Intriguing Montini Prospects

A couple prospect left an impression on us for Montini. Their 5’11” point guard Antoine Harris is a senior guard that loves to attack off the bounce and finish with athleticism at the rim. He had 9 points. Their top prospect 2022 [player_tooltip player_id="925191" first="Andrew" last="Stokes"] got in foul trouble early and was never quite in a rhythm. Physically impressive wing prospect with broad shoulders. Flashed in the second half with his passing from his off guard spot and also knocked in a crisp mid-range pull up.

Sunday Games are Underrated

Not a lot of games on Sunday, but in this abnormal year it seems like there are a couple quality games each week. It is like dessert at the end of the week getting one extra game to evaluate. Also a good way for teams to stand out on a day where not much else is going on with full slates the other six days of the week.
