With the newly updated 2023 rankings coming out this week, let’s jump into some positional breakdowns. Here’s a look at the top Junior shooting guards and combo guards. We are going to skip over the players in the Top 10 of the class since those players have already been broken down in our Top 10 article.

[player_tooltip player_id="926889" first="Luke" last="Imfeld"], Boyle County - I personally love Luke’s game and think he’s going to end up a steal for whichever college he commits to. He’s averaging 24 points per game and currently in the 50-40-90 club with his shooting percentages. Imfeld is an underrated athlete but his bread and butter is his midrange game. He’s a true 3 level scorer.

[player_tooltip player_id="801625" first="Tanner" last="Walton"], Lexington Christian Academy - Another really efficient scorer, Tanner is putting up 22 points and 6 rebounds per game while being counted on to do a little bit of everything for his team at LCA. He needs to focus on limiting turnovers and getting to the free throw line more to reach his ultimate ceiling as a prospect.

[player_tooltip player_id="926907" first="Cole" last="Villers"], Ashland - Villers is another scorer who is narrowly missing out on the 50-40-90 shooting club. Not sure on his ceiling as a prospect yet because he struggled in Ashland’s loss to Bowling Green and that’s the only time they’ve played top competition this season. If he can prove that he can create his own shots and guard his position, he could see more offers coming his way soon.

[player_tooltip player_id="1032014" first="Inslee" last="Carroll"], Doss - Inslee is an athletic guard with a chance to be really good. His motor doesn’t always run on both ends of the court. He has the tools to be a really good two way guard but he doesn’t always give 100%. Carroll should be on the radar of in state D2 and NAIA schools and his ceiling is definitely a D1 player. He shows his potential a little bit at a time and could be really good if he gets more motivated.

[player_tooltip player_id="926886" first="Turrell" last="Cleaves"], Jeffersontown - Cleaves is still not playing this season after he transferred from Butler this summer. If he doesn’t ever get eligible, we’ll have to wait until summer AAU to see Turrell on the court again.

Other Names to Know:

[player_tooltip player_id="692954" first="Kennedy" last="Hayden"], Ballard - Bigger and stronger in the last year, once Keno gets more consistent from game to game, he could be a D1 player.

[player_tooltip player_id="926899" first="Andru" last="Markham"], Fern Creek - If Andru can stay healthy, he’s got a chance to be a really good college player down the line. He’s currently out for the season after knee surgery.

[player_tooltip player_id="1009764" first="Brant" last="Smithers"], Walton-Verona - It says a lot about Brant that he’s down as a 3 point shooter this year and still shooting over 40% from deep. He’s a high level shooter.

[player_tooltip player_id="926902" first="Rico" last="Carr-Cole"], North Oldham - Rico is a shifty guard who can finish around the rim. He’s able to score a lot of points despite being one of our smaller ranked players.

[player_tooltip player_id="926891" first="Jack" last="Gohmann"], Lexington Catholic - Jack doesn’t get as much attention as he should but he’s having a great Junior season.
