<p>Week 1 Game Evaluations</p> <p>Its been a long time coming for high school basketball in Kentucky. A season that was pushed back until January 4th is finally here. Everyone has been eager anticipating the start of the season. So now that basketball season has officially kicked off in Kentucky. I can get back to watching basketball at the high school level. Here is a break down of players on teams that I saw.</p> <p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Spencer County</strong></span></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="923013" first="Jake" last="Whitlock"] (</strong>2021) - Out the gate on opening night [player_tooltip player_id="923013" first="Jake" last="Whitlock"] came out firing on all cylinders dropping 30 points. Jake controlled the pace of the game as the point guard. Mae sure his teammates where in the right positions to score. Whitlock has a good handle and change of pace game. He can speed up the tempo with his speed, ability to attack off the bounce, and in transition. Jake didn’t force shots. He took what the defense gave him. Very capable shooter who knocks down shots from deep. Definitely as player you have to guard because he can score on many levels. Currently Jake is averaging 17.8ppg. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="923053" first="Lucas" last="Hornback"] (</strong>2021) -  Lucas is currently leading Spencer County in scoring at 18ppg and pulling down 6rpg. He has already posted a double double this season. Hornback is the type of player who could easily average a double double on the season. He has a nose for the ball. Lucas is a very capable rebounder who doesn’t mind mixing it up in the paint. His ability to knock down the three makes him a threat on the offensive end. He leads the team in three point field goal percentage at 39%. </p> <p><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Collins</span></strong></p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="932782" first="Kenyon" last="Goodin"] (</strong>2023) - Kenyon is a very fundamental player who doesn’t get rattled easily. Goodin is currently leading Collins in scoring at 16ppg. What I like about Kenyon is his ability to make mid range shots. He can get to his spots on the floor and rise up over defenders. He plays with patience and lets his shots come. That’s very rare in players these days. Goodin has good footwork. He is strong and has a good handle. Kenyon is shooting 33% from behind the arc. </p> <p><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="1088813" first="Quintin" last="Simmons"] (</strong>2023) - Quintin is a strong point guard and is currently second in scoring on the team at 11.2ppg. He plays with a tough demeanor. To me, his attitude of I am not going to back down is refreshing to see in today’s game. He is an in your face defender. Looking to make his opponent quit kind of guy. He is strong getting to the basket and finishes well around the rim. Simmons has a solid handle as well and good speed. </p> <p><strong>Aaron Thompson (</strong>2022) - Aaron is currently third on the team is scoring at 10.8ppg. Thompson is a blue collar player. He does the dirty work for the team. He hustles, rebounds, and plays physical. Aaron is a solid finisher around the rim shooting 58.1 percent from the field.</p>
