Appetizer. The first game of the weekend is a 6pm tap between Brooklyn Center and Saint Anthony Village. Brooklyn Center sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="962210" first="Quyavant" last="Douglas"] is off to a great start this season averaging 26.3 points a game. The Centaurs schedule has been brutal early but Douglas 35 against Columbia Heights and 29 versus Richfield. Saint Anthony has also had some tough nights having faced DeLaSalle and Richfield early this year. They are looking for their second win while BC wants their first. Junior Gani Stevens is coming off a nice game versus Richfield.

Specials. Seeing Albert Lea at Owatonna reminds me of a player that’s had a monster start to the season, and that’s Owatonna junior [player_tooltip player_id="958681" first="Brayden" last="Williams"]. Brayden is scoring nearly 24 points a game including 29 in the recent win over Mayo and 25 points in a tough loss to a good Mankato West team. Brayden has been on fire hitting 20 of 33 threes so far this year (60 percent) and keep in mind, [player_tooltip player_id="850718" first="Evan" last="Dushek"] has barely played at all this year so teams know Williams is the top scoring option. Tonight could be another big game for Williams.

Main Course. Top game of the weekend? I’ll go with #2 DeLaSalle versus #4 Columbia Heights. In fact I love this game. I like it so much that I need to go Basketball in Bullet Points to look deeper into it:

[player_tooltip player_id="774736" first="Cade" last="Haskins"] vs [player_tooltip player_id="958666" first="Donnavin" last="Hinsz"] - Hinsz has the size and agility to play Haskins, the Dartmouth commit, but can he slow Haskins? Cade can stretch the floor and is better on the block than people know.

[player_tooltip player_id="774807" first="Evan" last="Boyd"] vs [player_tooltip player_id="850729" first="Muja" last="Burton"] - Howard Pulley summer teammates from last year, both will be counted on for wing points. Burton has scored 46 in two games while Boyd is scoring 14.3 a contest

[player_tooltip player_id="962218" first="Nasir" last="Whitlock"] vs [player_tooltip player_id="958648" first="Hassan" last="Kamara"] - Whitlock has been the Islander top scorer, Kamara had a great summer of D.

[player_tooltip player_id="958672" first="Amir" last="Everett"] vs [player_tooltip player_id="957232" first="Elijah" last="Williams"] - Everett is an excellent defender, Williams is a top Heights scorer

[player_tooltip player_id="958777" first="Kyle" last="Johnson"] vs Tula Tula - Both are new names for me that have started the year well

[player_tooltip player_id="774737" first="Keijuan" last="White"] vs Terrance Brown - These two are different and likely won’t match-up but both are key pieces

Travis Bledsoe vs Will Braziel - It’s the younger coach who has a title at De vs the veteran coach who ended the Islander state championships run in 2018.

Pelican Rapids vs Barnesville, or Perham vs Breckenridge are likely the top games on Saturday.

Dessert. Rochester JM at Mankato West. There are only two high school games in the state of Minnesota tomorrow evening (yes there are many matinees) and both are in Mankato. There is LCWM at Loyola (a local game) and JM at West. So yes, when the other 350 plus teams are chilling out tomorrow night at their homes at 10pm, the JM kids will be driving home in a cold school bus. It could be good ride home if JM sophomore [player_tooltip player_id="962257" first="Logan" last="Tuckner"] goes off again! Tuckner looks to be the next big scoring weapon for the Rockets and he’s coming off a 27 point game against Albert Lea where Logan hit 7 of 9 threes! The task will be tough though as West is making a push for Class AAA top ten. West has beaten Owatonna and Winona, gave Austin a run, and now they face West. The Scarlets have an excellent junior class that includes [player_tooltip player_id="958360" first="Mekhi" last="Collins"], [player_tooltip player_id="796953" first="Brady" last="Haugum"], [player_tooltip player_id="958702" first="Buom" last="Jock"], and others.
