That was probably due to the fact that he put up an unbelievable 62 point career high outing on the Blazers Sunday Night. This was a reminder that the man who inspired many of today’s young shooters isn’t done yet.
Section II is filled with players who can step back and light it up from deep, and have had our own versions of Curry-esque talents in the forms of Jimmer Fredette and Joe Girard III (both Glens Fall, NY). Take a look at who may be following in their footsteps:
- Hagan Foley – 6’1 G – CBA
Foley is one of the best players in Section II, and that stems from his shooting. Hagan will pull from anywhere on the floor, and his wiry frame makes his jumper smooth yet long enough to shoot over other guards. His game seems to heat up when it counts most as Foley has a handful of game deciding deep balls under his belt already. Shooting is always a basic need on a team, but clutch shooting is a championship attribute. An intangible attribute is being a winner, and Foley ahs shown he has winning acumen.
2. Preston Graber – 6’3 G – Albany Academy
Graber is coming off a strong Junior Season playing beside now-UConn Freshman Andre Jackson Andre Jackson 6'6" | SF Albany | 2020 State #64 Nation NY . Graber trailed only Jackson in scoring and had a two game stretch of 6 and 7 3s made last year; he was a frequent nightly 20 point scorer. Graber was a steady force on the best team in Class A last year, and this Senior Season will be no different if not better. Graber is a lefty guard who finds his spots and can get shots off quickly. He has a nice touch inside the paint. He may be lacking in athleticism, but he makes up for it with his smooth stroke and touch.
3. Marcus Shelton – 6’5 F – Colonie Central
Marcus Shelton Marcus Shelton 5'11" | PG Colonie | 2021 State NY has the shot mechanics most remnant of Steph Curry on this list. Shelton has absolutely a lightning quick release that he both gets up and out of his hands faster than anyone in the area. Shelton’s diverse offensive game is anchored by his potent jumper and quickness that transcends from his feet all the way to his hands. He operates from either pull up or spot up scenarios and can create for himself. He’s a bit undersized for his wing playstyle but could still be an effective energy 2 guard that can guard a few positions.
4. Gabe Eldaye – 6’4 G – Niskayuna
Eldaye is the only Junior to appear on the list, showing promise and maturity as a shooter above any of his peers in his class. Eldaye is a prototypical 3 and D guard who if he keeps growing could become a premiere 3 and D wing in the area. Eldaye is always ready shoot and can find his spots. His form is beautiful to watch, as he somehow always ends up squaring his feet for a perfect looking jumper. You can tell he’s put in work form shooting, something Steph Curry as always harped on. Eldaye has not one but two years to keep growing. The jump shot is already on a high level. If his body and athleticism follow, Eldaye will be a player to watch in the area.
5. Bo Catherwood – 6’3 G – La Salle
The first thing you notice about Bo when he plays his his strength. From what I saw, I could have guessed that Bo is a football guy, which he is. Bo brings that explosive quickness and strength to the hardwood, and it translates to the guard position. As a shooter, this allows Bo to create space getting downhill, forcing defenders to give Bo space to stay in front. Bo then uses his strength to elevate and heave 3s from deep beyond the arc.
Shot selection is a question, but as an off ball perimeter threat Catherwood could be a productive 2 way player on the next level.
